close to perfection

We had a family party at the Crossways and from check in to check out was wonderful. The decor is of a really high standard from carpets and curtains to ornaments, everything was high quality and spotlessly clean.
We enjoyed a couple of drinks on the patio which enjoyed far reaching views of the Somerset levels including Glastonbury tor.
The food, drink and service was spot on throughout including a varied selection of pastries for breakfast and of course a delicious full English.
Our room was huge and so was the very comfy bed, I slept like a log.
A modern bathroom with rainfall shower woke me up gently.
I can't credit Derek and his staff more for looking after us and will definitely visit again when in the area.

Staff were very helpful prior us arriving late and communicated very well over messenger. Both staff members were kind and helpful when we arrived late too.
The room was fine, although I chose the family room with the intention of us using the sofa bed, but no bedding was left for us to use the sofa bed and it wasn’t clear how to set it up either (not 100% sure if it was perhaps a normal sofa).
Could’ve used a hook behind the bathroom door so you don’t need to walk across the room to the towel radiator after a shower.
You also can’t wash your hands under the tap without touching the basin because the taps don’t stick out far enough from the sink, which seems a bit of a design floor and not too hygienic.
Carpet was a bit damp throughout the room so think it’d maybe been steam cleaned beforehand and not dried by 11pm?
Nice comfy bed and clean sheets.
Main issue we had was that we asked to checkout at midday and were told this would be fine, but then got a charge of £40 the next day without warning or receipt for this. A verbal warning is required to charge someone’s card usually? I have contacted the team about this.
Ample parking and good breakfast choices, nice staff at breakfast too.
Probably wouldn’t choose to stay here again, but hospitality is still recovering post-covid so perhaps a reason for the above issues and little updates needed.

Good enough room with nice bathroom but not 5 stars!! Convenient parking. Delicious breakfast with possibility to eat outside.

Not the best experience. 2 light fittings missing, window of room 111 opens onto flat roof ,only view is of opposite windows. No extractor fan in bathroom so condensation made bathroom and bedroom humid and uncomfortable. Poor sealing around shower, and bits of shower loose or leaking.
Poor signal to tv, didn’t stay tuned. No explanation there about paid for movie/tv section.
Breakfast, took 40 minutes to get served from arriving at our table. One waitress doing everything! Poor girl was run off her feet and bearing the brunt of some annoyed guests, unfair!
Full English was minimal, 1 bacon ,1 sausage (both undercooked)1 very dry hash brown, 1 egg ,half a tomato and terrible tinned mushrooms…
Juice had pretty much run out, gave up trying to get bread to brown in toaster.
I really wanted to like this place, but for 4 or 5 star hotels I’d expect much more.
Good points were, spacious room & shower eventually worked well with plenty of hot water. Bed was ok.

The exterior of the building looks a bit run down, but other than that a really lovely hotel in a quiet rural location. The room was spacious, modern and clean. The restaurant served delicious food with very generous portions. Quiet outdoor seating area with lovely views. Would definitely recommend
