Book it !

We stayed at the Hive for 2 nights and booked last minute and direct with Extraordinary Huts.
Everything as expected - we loved our wee hut and were grateful for the huge log supply on arrival!
Great shower, comfy bed, lovely surroundings. We took our own towels but no need, would probably recommend own coffee/tea but the do supply. There’s plenty of room in the fridge, a gas hob for cooking and all the bits you need. Also really great food and welcome at The Plough and Tibbs Farm. You can walk along the path/road to the pub, but yes, you must take care on a short stretch but a spot of common sense and a torch and we were fine and would do so again ( a no with kids, would drive or hope for a drier farm walk on the farm path at other times of the year as a bit too muddy even for our townie boots ! )
Thoroughly recommend. Do your research and manage your expectations and you’ll love your adventure ! We would love to come back with family & dogs.
Thank you to Extraordinary Huts & team for creating ( all you do to maintain !) such a special place and best wishes to you all !

A lovely place, sadly ruined by a serious hornet problem!

A lovely place and fun experience, sadly ruined by a serious hornet problem
There is a lot to like about Extraordinary Huts. The setting is beautiful, the huts are quirky and fun, and it's a great concept for a different night away. We enjoyed exploring Rye during the day and had a lovely evening back at the huts with friends, sitting around the fire with pizzas and wine. We were genuinely enjoying the experience and looking forward to staying the night.
Unfortunately, once it became dark we had a serious problem with hornets. One of the huts our group was using filled with them and a member of staff came over and killed a large number but more continued to appear. Hornets were also attracted to the lights and torches outside and I was stung.
We were particularly concerned when we were told there had previously been a hornets' nest in the oak tree above the hut. We completely appreciate that this is rural accommodation and insects are part of the experience, but this was clearly more than encountering the occasional wasp or hornet.
The fact that the problem only really appeared after dark made things particularly difficult. The children became extremely frightened of being outside or having the windows open, but the huts were extremely hot, especially in the upstairs sleeping areas. One family eventually left and, after trying to persevere, we reluctantly did the same at around 2am.
What ultimately disappointed us most was the response afterwards. We explained that we'd really liked the place and hadn't wanted to leave, but were told that because we had “left of our own accord” the matter was closed. No alternative accommodation or other solution had been offered on the night.
It's a real shame because, without this incident, we would probably have recommended Extraordinary Huts. Problems can happen anywhere, particularly in the countryside, but we felt the circumstances warranted considerably more understanding and a more sympathetic response afterwards.

Simply perfect!

We've just had the most perfect weekend staying in 'The Hideout' celebrating a birthday. Living locally (and knowing the area well) we've been wanting to experience one of these beautiful huts for a while as they have views across our favourite valley for walking. It really lived up to our expectations, with the off grid peace we were looking for without compromising on home comforts. The lighting, hot water and gas pressure were excellent and the woodburning stove kept the hut lovely and warm. We took plenty of food so we didn't need to leave the hut in search of dinner (making sure it could all be prepared on the stove). The huts are very well spaced and private, and it was lovely to sit outside by the firepit roasting marshmallows with just the sheep and pheasants for company. We loved everything about our stay, and we fully intend to book 'The Hive' in the autumn. The one thing I would suggest is that a sign be put on the gatepost to the lane (or a short way before it on the verge) as even though we knew where we were going we still had difficulty locating the entrance and crawling along looking for it isn't ideal if someone is behind you!

Wonderful, magical and fun!

Wow! What can you say about this place? It’s magical, awesome and such a fantastic retreat! It is what you make it. You can chose to absorb the natural surroundings of fields, sheep, use the fire pit for cooking and just look at the wonder of nature, or you can venture into Hastings, rye and the surrounding areas. We did a bit of both! We stayed for 2 nights, and have just returned home.
It’s so peaceful, with everything you need, nicely located in the hut! Going to bed was a venture, climbing up the winding green stairs (we stayed in The Hive) and crawling to bed! You can’t stand up upstairs, but it is so awesomely put together, it’s wonderful
Johnny, the host was very very responsive - and sorted things (the pilot light went out once, so we had no hot water momentarily) within, literally moments!
Wouldn’t hesitate to rebook! Do it! It’s an adventure you won’t want to miss!
