A gem! Bijou. Book direct
The room was pretty. Recently fully refurbished. Tasteful. Most things you would need for a good nights sleep:
✅ comfortable bed
✅ fresh linen and towels
✅ window that opened
✅ air con (didn’t use). Stand fan. (Didn’t use)
✅ toiletries and tea and coffee
✅ telly with Netflix (not free view)
✅ great rainfall shower
✅ tea and coffee facilities
The room was small but there used the space well.
Couple of things missing:
X no chair (but cushions made bed comfy)
X No wardrobe (hangers and hooks were fine for one night
X there was no desk and so nowhere to do work
✅ delicious breakfast cooked to order by friendly chef. It was really good, local sausages, crispy bacon delicious hash browns.
Booked via booking.com first but couldn’t work out breakfast pricing. So used free cancellation and rebook direct with Ruby through their booking site.
I didn’t go down to pub in the evening but they serve food Thu-Sun.
I will stay here again if I need to stay in Brighton

Football away day
In terms of location for match day, it’s excellent. The hotel is roughly a 20-minute walk to the ground, an easy and pleasant enough walk, and having a pub downstairs for a few pre-match drinks is a bonus. We didn’t eat there, but the food looked decent from what I saw. The pub itself is quite nice, though drinks were served in plastic cups due to it being match day. There was a good mix of supporters from both teams.
Parking is on-street only. I had to drive into a nearby residential estate to find a space and purchase a temporary parking pass.
Unfortunately, the room itself was dirty, dated, and in need of refurbishment. It was very small, with space for little more than the double bed. There was visible mould on the wall, and condensation coming through the window, which I could hear dripping during the night. The bathroom, however, was clean enough.
As the hotel is above a pub, noise is to be expected, but karaoke was running that evening and did wake me up.
Had the room been priced around £40, the issues would have been easier to overlook, but at £140 it felt extremely poor value for money.
That said, I should add that the staff were very friendly, which was appreciated.
