First time

el Review
I stayed at Hotel Alfa for 7 days and had a wonderful experience. My room was very clean, comfortable, and well maintained throughout my stay.
The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of choices available every morning. Even if you arrived a little late, the staff remained welcoming and never made guests feel rushed. Their kindness and professionalism really stood out.
The hotel felt very safe, and all the staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. The location is also perfect for anyone interested in visiting Germany, Basel, and the French side of the region.
I was very happy with my choice of Hotel Alfa and would highly recommend it to everyone. I truly enjoyed my stay and would gladly return in the future.

Efficient and courteous check in, comfortable room, shower a bit tiny. Good value/price ratio. Quiet area.

There was no air conditioning so we had to have the window open and contend with the noise of the traffic outside. The double bed was against a wall so you either had to climb over the other person or crawl down the bed to get out. There was no bar or sitting area. The room, albeit small, was clean. There was a coffee machine in the room which is ok but a kettle would have been better as my wife can’t drink coffee.

A basic, liveable venue for a few nights

We picked this hotel after seeing the over the top prices in Basel. It is a basic hotel - definitely nothing fancy but clean. Location is good for travel around the Baselbiet area as the tram no. 3 stops right in front of the hotel. Also the hotel gives you a voucher for free public transport travel in the Baselbiet area for the duration of your stay. Worth some bucks if you take advantage of the exemplary Swiss public transport system. Be sure to book a room at the back of the hotel away from the main street to give you the quietest stay. Street view rooms have a constant rumble of trams and heavy commute traffic. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful but their German comprehension leaves a lot to be desired. Better to speak English. The cleaning staff keep the rooms spotless and glistening. My bed was a nightmare. First the bed was much lower than a normal bed and I really had to squat to sit on it. Secondly, the mattresses must have been at least 10 years old and have received a LOT of hard use. Very soft and saggy - difficult to find a comfortable position. The huge pillows do not lend themselves to getting fluffed (beaten) into a comfortable shape for sleeping. Fortunately I had an ample supply of paracetamol packed to help me over the sore back and neck every morning. I had checked out beds in a couple of other rooms but they are all the same poor quality. The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Dried scrambled eggs prepared a lot earlier in the day. Some little greasy sausages. Two types of "juice" made from powder in a dispenser. A few cold cuts and fresh vegetable slices (but the left over veggies get recycled until used up). Some bread, rolls and croissants. The croissants are a cheaper variety and definitely not the wonderful, buttery, fluffy Swiss variety. I highly recommend a short walk down the street for breakfast at the Bangerter Bäckerei. All in all one of the less expensive hotels in Basel with a convenient location but do take some pain killers for your back.

No air conditioning... I had not seen it booking.......

Three stars in name and in fact, room with good furnishings, coffee machine 'pods in the room (but to be cleaned better).
Located in a quiet area a few tram stops from the center.
It included a free voucher for public transport, the bus stop was right in front of the hotel, we took advantage. In fact, we used the free parking (but we could not book it and some emails from the hotel did not give us certainty of availability). To check in you have to call the attendant, the empty reception does not make a good impression. Spacious room and comfortable beds, but inadequate pillows and especially bad ventilation. Apart from the lack of air conditioning, you could not open the window as the room (23) overlooked the street. Terrible heat, unsuitable fan.....
Too bad because the breakfast was good and varied.
