A Home Away From Home in Bern – Hostel 77 Experience

Earlier this year, I travelled to Switzerland to attend the travel expos in Bern and Zurich, representing my company, Giant Gorilla Safaris LTD from Uganda. During my stay in Bern (22nd–25th January 2026), I stayed at Hostel 77 Bern, and it turned out to be one of the best travel accommodation experiences I have had.
Before my trip, I was looking for an affordable and convenient place near Bern Expo. I had never considered staying in a hostel while travelling, but Switzerland’s reputation for safety and cleanliness gave me confidence to try something different. I booked through Booking.com.
From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Dominic at reception. He made me feel at home immediately and even helped carry my luggage to my room. During check-in, he informed me that since private rooms were not fully booked, I could be upgraded for my entire stay at a free cost. Originally, I had booked a shared dorm for four Ladies, but from 20th to 27th January 2026, I stayed in a private room instead.
Surprisingly, I connected with Dominic very quickly. He mentioned that he had once stayed in Uganda with his parents & brother and one day him and his brother sneaked and cycled through Queen Elizabeth National Park... We laughed when I jokingly asked how he “survived the lions”- a very light and memorable moment that made the stay even more personal.
Dominic also helped me download the Bern App and SBB transport app and patiently guided me on how to use them. This made moving around the city and getting to the expo venue extremely easy.
The hostel itself is very clean, safe, and well organized. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of options, and the atmosphere was quiet and respectful, with disciplined guests.
Overall, this stay completely changed my perception of hostel accommodation. It felt safe, comfortable, and surprisingly close to a home away from home. I would definitely recommend Hostel 77 Bern to anyone visiting the city for business or leisure... and Iam going back there to hostel 77 for my stay in 2027 same month.

Very nice stay

I stayed 2 nights, had a very nice & comfortable time at this very clean hostel! It has amazingly helpful staff.
On check out day, my train left in evening and they very nicely stored my luggage in store room for me.
A man at the counter (light blue/ grey green eyes) i wish i'd taken his name, with a kind smile said that would be no issue.
Very nice breakfast too so am definitely going again.
The only thing I'd change is maybe have an all girls/ ladies toilet.

World-Class Leadership and Management

I have been staying at this place for many years with my young children. And each stay has been more than just a healthy plate of breakfast and a good night's rest. Every day, at Hostel77, my children get to see real-life education at work--friendly staff serving a hearty breakfast, cleaning the rooms and kitchen, and answering guests' anxious questions about a foreign land. They also get to see how a world-class team from Switzerland, South Asia, Africa, and the world work together in harmony to make things work. This winning team has made my children and I feel alive. I highly recommend Hostel77 to anyone who is looking for a sanctuary in the old city of Bern to rest their tired legs, back, and soul.

An excellent address

Wow on top this bed and breakfast, great welcome, everything is clean and thought, our room 403 was nickel for us with duvets and sheets. Great and generous fast break room...Perfect bathroom, very good atmosphere.... we recommend+++ especially as the bus stop to go into the Center is 50m away.

The Best Hostel in the World!

Once again, it's an honor for me to write a review for the fantastic team at Hostel 77. This team keeps operations running like clockwork, but with a human touch. Showers are clean. The kitchen is clean. The cafeteria is clean. The beds and rooms are clean. And each time I visit--and I have stayed at this place for many many years--the cleanliness standards have remained consistent and very high.
But more than just staying at a clean place, Hostel 77 is a warm place. The staff are polite and kind, which makes it a safe place for a lot of travellers, a place to retreat to after a long journey across Switzerland, Europe, and Asia.
I have three beautiful children, and each of them has always felt safe and loved at Hostel77. Hostel77 is my go-to accommodation whenever I visit Bern. Give it a try! You will not be disappointed.
