A place to unwind

Raintree Dambulla was a much needed blessing for me . It was quiet , secluded. It was also safe for a solo female traveler.
I stayed at Solace which is a cottage at the end of the property, made over a small stream . The stream was drying up and there were so many birds / stocks / eagles / kingfishers waiting patiently to catch the fish which were not doing so well in the water bed that was drying up.
The mornings were the best with being waken up to a symphony of bird songs .
In the nights you could look up at the star filled sky through the glass portion of the roof. Loved the monkeys who would peep in at you from the same glass portion during the day .
The weather too was not so too warm due to the wind factor.
Got to say a big Thank you for the most delicious meals as well. Still can remember the coconut ditto and the chill paste / lunumiris .

Lovely stay, great house, delicious food and helpful staff

My family stayed a week at Raintree villa and thoroughly enjoyed it. The villa is large, and had all the facilities we needed. Food was great, and they went to a lot of effort to vary it day by day. They have a couple of small lakes and brought out a kayak for my kids to use. I'd definitely stay again.

Stay in Exquisite Solace

We booked via Air BnB for the Exquisite Solace chalet which is part of the Raintree homestay. It was beautiful with a house built on top of a lake. We spent an amazing night relaxing on the veranda watching turtles swim up to us. We went to the Dambulla cave temples in the afternoon and then Lion’s rock the next morning. It is the perfect place to stay for both of these activities. We would say that one night is enough for both of these activities. The staff are so friendly and the food is fantastic.

An enjoyable stay

Our family of five(3 daughters aged 8-15) enjoyed our stay at Raintree Villa. It is in a lovely location surrounded by trees through a quiet village with colourful houses. Supipi was a lovely host, cooking some of the best meals we had during our trip including delicious desserts, organizing some daytrips and chatting with us. The staff were always smiley and friendly.
The accommodation is close to the Dambulla Caves and there is a free drop off. Watch out for the sliced mango stalls on the way down the hill from the caves if you are there in mango season, they were delicious! We also visited Sigiriya and Ritigala ruins(both must sees) and an elephant safari in Kaudulla Park where we saw about 200 elephants! Supipi organized a great driver(Vijith from Mathisha Jeep Tours) and we loved travelling around with him in his open air jeep.
We loved having the pool to cool off in and the children enjoyed the company of the two dogs, Lassie and Mickey. We also really appreciated having a water dispenser where we could fill up our water bottles rather than contribute to the plastic bottle waste. I would ignore the mad guests who vindictively left a bad review and listen to the good ones!
