The room was reasonably clean, but the hotel itself is quite outdated and in need of significant renovations. While everything was functional, the aging facilities noticeably affected the overall experience. The air conditioning worked well and kept the room comfortable throughout our stay.
With some much-needed upgrades and modernization, this hotel has the potential to provide a much better guest experience.

Extremely Disappointed – Completely Unacceptable Experience
We have been loyal guests of Hotel Sapphire since 1970, from the time we got married. For decades, this hotel felt like our second home. Even as standards declined over the years, we continued to stay out of loyalty and emotional connection.
However, our most recent visit has completely shattered that trust.
Around 1:00 PM, we went to the restaurant and inquired about the Panai Olai Jaffna food advertised in the hotel lift—something we have enjoyed during past visits. While we were speaking in Tamil with a staff member, the Executive Chef intervened. After being informed of our inquiry, he proceeded to verbally abuse us in Sinhala, assuming we would not understand.
What followed was shocking and unacceptable. The chef used offensive and racist language targeting Tamils. This kind of behavior is disgraceful and has no place in any professional establishment—especially in a hotel that serves a large Tamil clientele.
We felt humiliated, disrespected, and completely unwelcome. For a hotel with such a long-standing relationship with Tamil guests, and one that is known to be owned by a Tamil proprietor, this conduct is beyond shameful.
This incident has permanently destroyed our trust in Hotel Sapphire. We will not be returning.
We have already shared this experience within a large WhatsApp community of over 1,000 Jaffna Tamils in Sri Lanka and worldwide, and the response has been one of shock and disappointment.
We strongly advise others to think twice before staying here.

Day reception ladies were brilliant and helpful and held the hotel name up for me.
Management must update rooms and remind staff of duties and be consistent. Buffet staff must not engage in conversation with guests to the point of slight irritation while eating. Staff in general are pleasant.
Having seen Sapphire as a landmark hotel, I want it to succeed and my comments are meant for improvement only. All the best.

Ordered for three cups of tea at the restaurant, they charge me 1500 rupees, I asked for the bill,, after some argument they brought the bill for 1150 rupees but did not mention on the bill for it is for three cups of tea.
We are a regular visitor to this hotel but won’t stay there in future.
