A fantastic overnight stop

We chose this hotel for an overnight stop after arriving on the ferry at Santander that afternoon. It is very easy access from the A3, about a 10-minute drive. It is situated in an old, pretty village adjacent to the monastery and the surrounding area would be worth a longer stay. Although no dedicated parking there is ample on the square in front of the church just 50-100m away. On arrival there was no-one on reception but followed the instructions to go to the bar. We were made very welcome and our cases were taken up to our room. The room overlooked a central courtyard adjacent to the bar and restaurant. The room was very spacious with two single beds, two comfortable armchairs and side table, a television and en-suite. It was spotlessly clean and sympathetically decorated to reflect the age and style of the building, as were all the public areas. We ate in the restaurant. The manager was very helpful in explaining some of the items on the menu which were new to me. There was a good selection and those dishes unsuitable for coeliacs were clearly marked. The style of cooking could be described as international with a spanish twist and was based around locally available fresh produce. My husband had steak and I chose the pork cheek in a delightful, though rich, sauce. Pricing was as expected for a table d'hote menu. There was no menu del dia in the evening. The service was excellent. There is free wifi throughout the hotel and, although it was said to be slow, it was more than adequate to just check emails, etc. We both had a very good night's sleep in comfortable beds with fairly firm mattresses, which we prefer. The following morning we had breakfast which had been included in our room rate. This was spanish style continental with freshly squeezed orange juice, toast, butter, olive oil, crushed tomato, jam and a wedge of cake plus tea or coffee to your choice. We left to continue our journey to the south feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Hola,

Bad experience

It was a disastrous meal.
The sirloin was not scarce but ridiculous accompanied by three fries
The dessert that was cheesecake was past and smelled bad and tasted worse
To top it off it was hugely cold
No wonder it was empty

Hello, Extraordinary667164.
We are truly sorry to read your review and learn that your experience with us was so negative. Nothing disappoints us more than failing to meet our guests' expectations.
We would like to sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered. The situation you describe with the cheesecake is extremely serious and unacceptable. We have already taken immediate steps to investigate and review our quality and food preservation protocols. The quality and freshness of our products are an absolute priority, and we assure you that we are taking action to ensure this never happens again.
We also take note of your comments regarding the portion size of the sirloin and the temperature of our restaurant. We will review our dishes to better match our customers' expectations.
We appreciate your honesty and the time you took to give us your feedback. It helps us identify areas for improvement and grow as a business.
Regards,
Casa Palacio Uclés

Excelent food and service

Well worth a (or many) visit. A pleasant place, charming staff and very well presented and top quality food. You can find an interesting blend of traditional and innovative cuisine. Highly recommended and easy access from A3. We will be back for sure!

Unexpectedly lovely

Having got lost in the Madrid equivalent on the M25 we needed somewhere at short notice and found this. Beautiful building, parking close by in the main square, friendly staff. We had a great meal in their small restaurant the first night, but the second skipped dinner as we'd had a late lunch in Cuenca, also worth a visit. Didn't bother us, but if you are a light sleeper and want an early night may not be great as the rooms are next to the open patio bar and it can be noisy. Breakfast is basic but good quality with jams, fresh bread, orange juice and coffee.
The monastery in Ucles is definitely recommended, with an audio guide in English included in the price
