Warning. Read all reviews you can find for this place, on all sites
1. Carlos. This man is rude and belligerent to the point of abuse. This you will see noted time and again in many reviews.
2. Lack of cleanliness. Cushions etc which appear unwashed between guests. No (and I mean none at all) measures for sanitisation with regard to Covid 19.
3. Ants. There is a clear problem here with ants. We shared a bathroom with a lively colony of them. When I told Carlos he gave me ant powder. I'm the guest man! its not my job!
Then there is our stay there. Thank god it was only 2 nights. We paid for a room upgrade and what that gets you is a room with no surface big enough to put anything other than a mobile phone on, a stand fan that rattles so much its not usable, damp walls, dirty shower and an ill-fitting mosquito net thats neither use nor ornament.
The only and I mean ONLY thing that made those 2 days anything like tolerable was the air conditioning.
Pego itself is a lovely place and well worth a visit just don't stay here.

Rude, aggressive owner
On arrival (at 2pm as discussed and agreed with Carlos via text message) was told he had no record of it, ordered me to 'come here' and 'wait there' as though i was a 5 year old, whilst he checked his booking.com emails and whatsapp...told me that he sent everything in writing so that people didnt have to speak to him...maybe a change of career is required; this man should NOT be in a customer facing position.
I let it go at the time, however, Carlos....its on your text messages dated the day i booked.
The bed in room 6 squeaks when you move, the mosquito net is far too high (needs an 18" ribbon to lower it) to be effective as it barely covers the bed, when it should envelope the bed.
There is nowhere to put anything, no surface space except tiny bedside drawers!
The provided stand fan is so noisy we couldn't hear each other speak.
The tap on the bathroom sink is filthy around the base. There was no disinfectant anywhere for guest use.
The shower is very good.

Worst hospitality experience in all my life!
I went with 2 friends because they booked a room for few days (I was not a guest). They did the c-in and the owner invited me to go up to the room, but I kindly thanked him but stay in the lobby.
When we came back in the evening, I went up to their bedroom while they were taking a shower (very briefly). The owner broke into the room without even knocking the door, I was shocked! He said that we had to keep the volume of the TV low, and the level was at only 5. Anyway, we put it at 3.
Only 5 minutes later, he knocked the door and my friend opened the door. He said that I had to leave because I was not a paying-guest, these were exactly his words. I said that I was only staying for maximum 30 min while my friends were taking a shower but of course not staying overnight. He said that it doesn’t matter; I had to leave now, in a very rude way. I said that he invited me in the morning to go up to the room, and he responded that it was only for a brief time, and I said that this was going to be very brief but he was out of his mind, very angry for a reason that I did not know so I left the bedroom.
I was thinking that he would allow me to stay in the lobby, but he kicked me out of the property, in the street, so I had to wait during 10 minutes to my friends there.
Honestly, this is one of the worst experiences that I can remember. It is no way to treat a person, guest or not. Obviously this guy doesn’t know what the word hospitality mean. Don’t stay here or be ready for a similar experience.

Keep looking
Long version: The English owner/host is terribly rude. There are fixed check in times and you HAVE to arrange the check in time with him in advance. If you don’t show up on time, he will not let you in. He kept insisting we had told him 8 months earlier that we would check in at 11.30 am even though we didn’t and he couldn’t prove it. Further, he kept repeating over and over that we had received all the info via email (also 8 months in advance) instead of giving us any Information personally. We even communicated the day before via WhatsApp, when I asked for the possibility for an early check in and he told us that „most hotels don’t let you check in before 2 pm“, which is reasonable and fine. However, he gave no additional check in info. When we showed up at 2.30 pm he wasn’t there. Luckily, other guests let us in to leave our bags and change our clothes, since we were invited to a wedding. When at the wedding, he called angrily and told us we had to come back right now and get our bags. On the next day, he came running after us when we left for the beach, accused us of stealing his towels, even though we were still checked in and were obviously coming back in the evening. Additionally, he reprimanded us for leaving the air conditioning on (which we forgot and didn’t do on purpose). During discussions with him, he showed his xenophobic side, saying we were supposed to be more reliable since we are German unlike other terrible Spanish guests! Seriously, WTF?! Why on earth would you work in the hotel industry in Spain with this attitude? About the place: nice patio (where you can hope not to meet „Carlos“), generally clean but the mattress was small and very worn down and the air conditioning kept dripping all night. We will never stay in this place with this terrible owner ever again. We suggest the host to look for a different job in another country and find a successor that actually enjoys hosting and being friendly to their guests.
