A Very Good Stay
The check-in was very straightforward. Just press the Hostal name at the big brown door’s doorbells and you can use the lift to the second floor. It felt like I’d gone back in time, in a good way when I entered the Hostal. The staff are very professional, straight to the point and helpful. You’re told how to use the entrance code and electronic key system.
I did not realise it at first, but there’s a useful, very reasonably priced drinks and snacks machine slightly hidden, behind the reception desk. The coffee is good. I was there for just two days.
I was pleased with my compact single room. It was clean, neat and tidy. The smallish double bed had a firm enough mattress and fairly large, plump pillows. The room was comfortable. There was a small desk and chair, a TV, a large wardrobe, an armchair and a compact bathroom with a good functioning bathtub and shower and a few small toiletries.
There was just one small dustbin which was in the bathroom.
The room could do with a larger dustbin in the main room. I only had the TV on once, but I could not find any main English-speaking channels. There’s no kettle and hot drink sachets, but as previously mentioned there’s a decent vending machine near the front desk.
The location was great. I was able to walk to all the places I needed to get to. All the places were well within a 1.5 mile radius. Including for great flamenco at Cafe Berlin, an excellent, lively jam session bar at Intruso and a fascinating Banksy museum/gallery; as well as many good traditional restaurants. If you have time, I recommend going on a walking tour (which you can find on TripAdvisor) to gain knowledge about the history and key sites in Madrid.
There's a supermarket on the main road and many general stores scattered around (but I tended to avoid the ones which were closer to the centre - Centro - as they tend to sell items which are overpriced.
I would certainly stay at Hostal Edreira again.
