Unbeatable

Excellent weekend with a spectacular stew and a wonderful dinner culminated with a night of fados.
I highlight the kindness of all the staff and I appreciate the treatment and attention received, all very welcoming.

Very bad management

A spectacular location going downhill due to the mismanagement of the chef and main person in charge of the castle. The treatment was exceptional on the part of the workers at the place, but of course if the representative of all of them does not know how to deal with people, then you will not return to the place. Wonderful experience if it weren't for this person

The chef should only dedicate himself to cooking

We celebrated a wedding and the truth is the place is very nice, we used the rooms and the cleanliness and the attention of Pili is unbeatable as well as that of the waiters
It's a shame that all this is clouded by the poor attention and arrogance of the person who runs the castle. I was quite upset by the treatment and poor management at all times of this person who is also the chef of the place. The food is very good and the truth is that the team they have is excellent. If it weren't for them, as the groom's mother, I would have run away.
Well, as I said, this person should only dedicate themselves to cooking because it is not enough to deal with people and keep their word.

Excellent food and service!!!

What a experience!!! Since the beginning everything was pristine, the menu was they called "menu de mercado". Everything fresh from that day, the same chef Carlos Parra came out and explained us what the dynamic was, the entries were chosen by him and then you get to choose from meat or fish, wine, dessert and coffee altogether and the cost was like 20 euros p/p... Surprisingly happy :)

Civilised and comfortable with a difference

The Castelo on the edge of Maceda is a great place to relax in for 7 days, and go for some wonderful walks, and explore the very beautiful countryside - get walking maps in advance. The climate and weather is said to be more benign and less wet than in northern parts of Galicia. The food is good. The room was very comfortable. The English speaking hospitable and knowledgeable manager runs the hotel with great commitment and old fashioned courtesy, and so we felt properly treated. The local village centre (not inspiring apart from the ancient leather belt purveyor) some 20 minutes walk away, has several cheaper all day eateries. The panoramic views from this civilised mini castle are quite spectacular. Difficult to go wrong on this one. There is a limited bus service just by the castle to Ourense. The timetable needs some understanding but is ok once understood.
