End of Madrid

This December I was with my boy spending a weekend in Molar, we visited the northern mountains of Madrid and had dinner in the Molar caves.
To stay we stayed at Hostal Azul, which looks more like a hotel than a hostel.
I liked the cleanliness, the treatment and the facilities. It is a totally recommended site

Construction during the stay

My experience at this establishment has been very disappointing.
We booked three rooms for a wedding and expected to be able to rest until check-out time. However, in the morning, we began to hear noises typical of installation and assembly work on the same floor where we were staying, which made it impossible to continue resting and forced us to leave the hotel earlier than planned.
Upon leaving, we found that the hallways were occupied by tools, pipes, and materials related to the ongoing work. Although the passage was not completely blocked, the sight was uncharacteristic of an establishment hosting guests and created a clear sense of discomfort and lack of care.
What bothered me the most was not just the noise, but the hotel's subsequent response to our complaint. Instead of acknowledging the inconveniences caused or proposing some form of compensation, they limited themselves to denying our version of events and questioning the photographs we provided as evidence.
Additionally, the room had other uncomfortable aspects, such as an extremely narrow access to the shower, approximately 40 cm wide, which was uncomfortable even for an average-sized person.
We all can make mistakes, but the difference lies in how the customer is treated when a problem arises. In this case, I have felt unheard, questioned, and unappreciated as a customer.

A good base to visit the Sierra around Madrid

This hotel is ideal for a visit to the Mountains near Madrid. Lots of interesting villages nearby. There are quaint cave eateries and other restaurants in the town of El Molar.
So, the hotel is in the centre and comfortable . The reception is helpful and the rooms are quiet.

Good overnight stopping place for the ferry ports with underground, secure parking.

Our usual hostel in El Molar was closed on the date we wanted and we had seen this on a previous visit so booked it. The secure parking was the main reason we were drawn to it.
Check in was fast - perhaps too fast for my brain to compute all the instructions for lift, keys, parking etc after 2 long days of travelling but we got there in the end!
The room was clean and spacious although a little tired and a lick of paint in the bathroom would have helped. There was free wi-fi that worked well but you had to keep entering the code each time to log on which was a bit annoying but manageable.
The chap on reception, who spoke English, was helpful telling us where to eat as it was Sunday and a lot of places were either closed or didn't serve food until around 9pm which was too late for us.
We didn't have breakfast there in the morning but went to a cafe a couple of minutes walk away for tostadas and coffee.
It was very quiet, the bed was comfortable and, for an overnight stay, was ideal. The car parking was 9€ but we felt it was well worth it for us this time. There was limited parking in the street but you could not guarantee how close to the hostel you would be.
All in all, we would stay here again if we needed secure parking.

What a fantastic find

I came across this Hostal on Booking .com. This is the first time we had used a Hostal as we were apprehensive having used Hostels in the Uk!!
One point to remember is that it would be cheaper to book direct with the Hostal rather than through Booking.com!!
We arrived at the Hostal and was amazed at the quality and appearance of the Hostal.
Our room was spotlessly clean and we felt very comfortable.
Staff were very friendly and spoke very good English.
We arrived quite late, nut managed to get a meal at the bar down the road, which was ok
Our dog cost 11 Euros and carpark 9 Euros. My wife was able to get a breakfast in preparation for our onward trip to Santander.
We are planning to return to the Hostal in July
