Cozy Hostel with Amazing Staff & Location
When my travel plans changed, I ended up in Barcelona last minute and in need of a place to stay. I came across Soul Backpackers and had such an amazing experience thanks to the phenomenal staff, especially Paulina and Marco who went above and beyond. Hostel is secure (must ring bell to enter building) and on the second floor. Each dorm room also has a code to enter ensuring complete safety for myself and my belongings. Quiet location, yet still central enough to walk to all the bars, shopping, restaurants, etc. Cozy common areas and a large outdoor terrace. In the dorms, I appreciated the privacy curtains, large windows and fan. Shared bathrooms and toilets. All areas clean! I had everything I needed for a safe and comfortable stay. Thank you to Marco for all the amazing recommendations and information provided and to Paulina for making check in a smooth process.

Not for me
Brilliant staff, great location and a decent hostel however at £32 it’s not good value for money, I checked into a stunning hotel for only £5 more. No ventilation in the dorm at night and I was unfortunate to be in a dorm with loud people.

Not your usual hostel, but very easy to get around
LOCATION
Very convenient, The hostel is located at a convenient walking distance (10-15 minutes, with luggage) from very central Plaça de Catalunya (also a convenient spot to get to and from the airport), though it's also served by more than one metro line. Likewise, you can easily reach noteworthy areas such as the Sagrada Familia (and nearby Hospital Sant Pau), the Rambla (starting from Plaça de Catalunya), the Parc de la Ciutadella / Arc de Triomf, and the El Born-Barri Gòtic - El Raval neighbourhoods, all of which are worth a visit. Closest metro stations would be Girona and Tetuan. However, the hostel is not visible from the street as you will have to ring the reception from the door nearby the Desigual store! Someone will answer within minutes as the reception is open 24/7.
The area is well-provided with small bars and restaurants as well as with several supermarkets and shops, so fetching food or useful tools should be quite easy.
ROOMS AND COMMON AREAS / AMENITIES
This hostel is quite unlike most others. It was made out of a historic flat in the Eixample area, of which it has kept many original features, such as the stained glass windows, the colourful tiles and a nice little terrace on one side. Aesthetically speaking, it makes for a very picturesque and unique place to stay. The hostel is furnished with a (rather small) common kitchen, common washrooms and showers, and a small hall where you can chill, read, play games or just simply interact with other guests as well as with the staff. It is located on the first floor of the building, which can also be reached by lift so that it will be easily accessible for people with physical disabilities,
The rooms (I stayed in a 6-bed female dorm) are equipped with "capsuled" bunk beds that provide discretion for each guest, Each bed has a lamp, a socket, and a small shelf for personal objects to be stored, whereas suitcases can be kept in lockable chests underneath the beds. The dorms have ceiling fans and the window can be opened, though it is not possible to dry one's clother there (though you can do it on the terrace), In order to enter, you will be given an easy code to digit. The size of the dorms may vary. One problem I noticed with my own bed is thet the handle to get to the upper bed wasn't well-secured. If I held it tight, it may have fallen off, and myself with it. I somehow managed, but it could prove dangerous.
CLEANLINESS AND ORDER
I'm not very formal, but I had the impression the place was a little packed-up for its size, especially for what concerns the kitchen (which I didn't use) and the showers. So many objects / pieces of furniture in little space could make things a bit messy and uncomfortable in case many people were to use the same areas at the same time. The place was also quite dark and could use some better lighting. Also, the mask policy was extremely easy for both guests and the staff, though a panel on the door said otherwise.
STAFF
While the staff I met was chill and helpful, I often had the impression that people outside often had to wait or ring twice for the door to be opened, and I found the reception desk was often empty (though someone would be in at any time of the day). Sometimes I felt like a guest at their own place though they are approachable when you need it. Just as a friendly advice...please, guys, get a printer ASAP as guests may need documents to be printed at any given moment!

Lacking soul, refusal to use AC - not a joyous place.
Sadly the Soul Backpackers is lacking much of the soul it suggests it has.
The main issue is with the female staff at the property who could run quite hot and cold. They often seemed to have a bad attitude to customers and would make you feel very uncomfortable when cooking in the common kitchen.
The coffee and tea was not stocked by the staff, whilst they refused to turn on the air conditioning units in all the common bunk beds room leaving a very stuffy and unpleasant property. Fridge, but no freezer.
Plus points were the male staff, who were totally different and much more mellow, the nice outdoor terrace and... um... that's it.

A true gem of hospitality and great value!
Great little hostel close to L2 line (Tituan). Feeling very welcome by Edo and his team, I hope to be returning soon. Comfortable bunk beds (slept well in 4 person room for two nights). Cutest patio for coffee outside with a free use of a kitchen. Highly recommend!
