Lovely small hotel in great location.

Stayed for three nights in the heat of July. Great little hotel. We booked a superior room with balcony, room number 5. Lovely high ceilings , modern tv, air con and en suite. All very clean and a huge, comfy bed.
Entrance can be tricky to find, small sign next to the big door entrance. Staff very friendly. Breakfast is continental style, croissants, bread, cheese, meats plus cereal and yoghurts. Toaster does take an age! Nice coffee machine too which is available all day plus large fridge.
Location is perfect. Half way between sagrada familia and placa de catalunya where all the tourist buses have stops.
Lots of bars, restaurants and supermarkets in the area. Felt very safe walking around day and night.
We used the Barcelona hop on/off BusTuristic, booked 48 hour ticket in advance. Two routes available - blue loops round north of the city and red route round the city sights and beach front. Each takes about two hours. Nice easy way to see the sights but in July heat the open top was very warm!
Booked a tour guide for the Sagrada Familiar through booking.com in advance. Definitely worth it for the information and history of the building.
Did the cable car up to the Montjuic castle, great views of the city but not much to see inside the castle to be honest. Not sure it’s worth the extra ticket to go inside.
We didn’t venture onto the beach, but read that sun loungers and umbrella can set you back €45 for the day.
Hotel booked us a cab for return trip to the airport. Cost was €35.

Scary…

tayed 5 nights at Hostal Girona with my son for $900, which was absolutely not worth it. We were given room 8 — tiny, no sunlight, and extremely noisy.
When I asked to change rooms, I was first told nothing was available, then suddenly offered other rooms only after mentioning friends arriving the next day. Very inconsistent.
On top of that, both my friends and I were overcharged for the tourist tax. I was charged 88$ when in fact it was half the amount, the same did happen to my friends.
When I asked for a refund, the receptionist ( man late 40s early 50s) became aggressive and rude, shouted ( you know what American) offensive remarks, and even tried to take my phone. It was a scary and unacceptable experience, especially with a child.

Dear Meriam,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations.
Regarding the room, as explained at the time, you had booked a standard category room. All rooms in this category share similar characteristics, and while we initially informed you that we were fully booked, we later offered you the possibility to move to another room of the same category, slightly larger but also facing the interior patio, as per availability.
Concerning the tourist tax, there was indeed an error at check-in, as your child was mistakenly included in the calculation. As minors under 16 years old are exempt, this was corrected immediately, and the corresponding amount was refunded.
With regard to the interaction at reception, we take these matters very seriously. After reviewing the situation internally, we understand that the conversation became tense. Our team always aims to remain respectful and professional, and we regret that the situation escalated and caused discomfort. We also kindly ask that communication remains respectful on both sides to help us assist our guests in the best possible way.
We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion and appreciate your feedback, which helps us to continue improving.
Kind regards,
HG Team

I really enjoyed the charm of the property, and I would happily stay again. I opted for a shared toilet, but I had my own sink and shower in my room, which was very convenient. Overall, the property has a lovely atmosphere.

Nice building, bad experience

Paid 200 Euro for a very small 1 bd, 2 ppl room. The room entry door was inside the front reception room (~8 feet from reception desk) and immediately next to Hostel kitchen (shared a wall).
Within first hour we knew we would get no rest. We asked to be moved, but we're told "I'm sorry, there are no others". (I see now from other reviews, this is not an unknown issue for the proprietor).
The walls are very tall and apparently very thin, so every noise is loud. We got very little sleep while people came and went. Tried to get some rest in the early morning, but could not due to continuous activity in the kitchen and especially the reception room.
The building itself is amazing. It was a shame we were stuck in a room that so clearly is not accommodating for people who need rest. Our lack of sleep impacted our ability to fully enjoy the last day of our trip to Spain.
Our stay was definitely not worth the 200 Euro.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, especially regarding the noise and your ability to rest. We understand how important a good night’s sleep is, and we regret the inconvenience caused.
As mentioned during your stay, we were unfortunately fully booked at the time and unable to offer a room change. Our hostal is located in a 19th-century modernist building, where we have preserved original features such as high ceilings, wooden doors, and traditional materials. While this gives the property its unique charm, it can also make soundproofing more challenging.
We appreciate your kind words about the building itself, and we sincerely regret that the noise affected your stay and your overall experience in Barcelona.
Your feedback is very valuable to us, and we will continue working to improve our guests’ comfort.
Kind regards,
HG Team
