Highly recommended

I stayed a few days ago at Hostal Velilla and the experience has been excellent. The location is unbeatable, right in front of the beach, ideal for a swim just after leaving. The room was very clean, everything very well kept, and the air conditioning worked perfectly, something that is greatly appreciated in the heat of July. The staff was very friendly throughout, always with a smile and willing to help. If you are looking for a quiet, clean and well located place in Almuñécar, I would definitely recommend it.

No rest

Bad beds. You hear everything from the next room and the hallway. Good seafront location, large terrace with table and chairs

Hostal velilla worst place I ever stayed

Myself and my girlfriend have just come home from staying in a place that makes fawlty towers look 5 star. The staff are pig ignorant, we were told we had a view over the beach, instead the view was looking straight out at a mountain of rock. The safe was broke, the place stank, the shower head fell of and hit my girlfriend on the head while taking a shower, the towels weren't changed, we paid 6 euros for 2 slices of toast and 2 teas and the TV didn't work. The area is nice but the people in Almunecar are the most ignorant people I ever was unfortunate to meet. I won't set foot in that country again never mind the hell hole we stayed in. This is a warning to other visitors to stay away, it's up to yourself whether you heed this advice, but if you want your holiday ruined pick stay in that place by all means!

Nice hostal but I will never return

The hostal is a little expensive, but as described in most reviews.
The problem arrives when you want to use your car. I stayed 4 nights here in August 2013 and it was impossible to find a parking space. There is no parking space available, public or private. I spent hours trying to park in the surrounding areas and sometimes it was almost impossible to drive because cars were badly parked everywhere.
I could not return to the hostal area for lunch. I had to wait till the closing of a nearby waterpark (19:30 or so) and walk for about 20 minutes. You also had to pay for this parking space in the street.
I was diving in another village, La Herradura, so I had to use the car daily and carry luggage. It was absolutely exasparating.
I will never return.

El problema de aparcamiento en agosto es casi general, cada año se va mejorando con nuevos sistemas municipales, la mayoría de los clientes no suelen mover el coche y utilizan los autobuses de línea que pasan cada media hora para desplazarse

Impeccably clean, great service, & everything you could wish for in a small hotel

Hostal Velilla is on the ground and first floor of a large, south facing apartment block, accessed through an archway of shade- providing climbers situated on the promenade bay of Almunecar. My daughter and I shared a quiet twin room for a week. The room and ensuite were spotlessly clean, with fresh towels daily. There was a TV a small fridge , & the room was cooled by a ceiling fan. The staff were friendly & helpful and other residents were either French or Spanish. Breakfast was served in the Foyer between 8.30 - 11.00am with a choice of coffee, orange juice and croissant or toasted bread with garlic, tomato paste & olive oil was a reasonably priced 3euros. The stony beach was just across the road , also clean and peaceful with mostly Spanish families. Amenties and good restaurants are plentiful and within easy walking distance .
I'll go back !
