Good central location
Stayed 3 nights in this little gem of a place. Staff were very lovely and obliging. Can't fault our rom which was spotless, cosy & comfortable with Bright modern decor. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice of cheese,Pates,preserves, bread,etc served with fresh orange, coffee or tea. Expect a little noise as in the centre and the locals like to put their bins out early hours but this only disturbed me one night and would not put me off staying here again. Very good value.

Fantasticoooooo
Great value. Super clean. Very friendly. 2 minutes to the beach and 10 to the center. Cozy little bar restaurant.... Like we say in Spanish.... No pidas peras al Olmo. Genial. Q mas se puede pedir por un precio irrisorio al lado del mar en todo el centro de Almuñecar. Fantastico

Great value and location
The location is great, a few minutes away from the sea, yet seconds away from the many tapas bars.
As the streets are mostly narrow and pedestrianised, it isn't possible to park nearby. This wasn't much of a problem as we found a cul-de-sac where we could unload, ran in with the bags and went off to park the car. There is an underground car park quite close which is around 15 euros a day but we found free street parking about a 5-10 minute walk away.
Any white parking pays mean free parking (don't quote me on this).
I suppose the trade of to such a great location is noise, including, but not limited to, people returning home late, people leaving early, dogs, cats and the village idiot. Soundproofing from other guests was also poor.
The staff are fantastic, very friendly and help in any way that they can. They will give you a map of the local area with ideas of what to see and do. We really enjoyed our stay in Almunecar and will return.
We paid 30 euros for a double room per night in late september. This included breakfast which consisted of freshly squeezed orange (the real deal), coffee, toast and a very large choice of spreads. Tostado con tomate was my favourite.
Our room was large, yet very basic. Air con is only free in the hot summer months. We had the option of paying an extra 6 euros per night so we chose to get by with a fan. Bed was comfortable with pristine white sheets and made up every day.
The bathroom had a good shower with clean towels and soap provided. Everything was very clean. We had a small TV with many channels, I figured out that if you press the audio button you can get some channels in English.
There is free WIFI but it is very poor, often unusable, The Movistar signal was usually 1-2 bars so this didn't help matters.
Overall a pleasant stay if looking for great value and location, downside noise and poor WIFI. We would stay here again.

Great Place
We loved thus place. In the centre of Almunecar old town and close to the beach. This is excellent value for money. Rooms are cleaned daily and continental style breakfast is served anytime after 9ish. All the staff were friendly and helpful and offered good advice. We would definitely stay here again and intend to. Thank you for the hairdryer lend and the fan when we went to Granada :)

Rude night receptionist, outdated room, horrible shower and noise inside and outside
We stopped here for one night after a long drive from Valencia. We were exhausted when we arrived but the night receptionist, a very non-smiley gentleman, made us wait for 10-15 minutes as he 'couldn't find the booking in the system'. The hostal was not full - I could see a lot of keys in the room slots, so he could have given us any room in a blink of an eye but somehow a big fuss was made out of it. When we finally got into the room, it was very dissapointing - very oldfashioned, desperately needing a maintenance and refurbishment. The shower measured 75cmx75cm if not less, so it was nearly impossible to have a shower - the sticky shower curtains were in the way all the time and the water was splashing everywhere - the bathroom floor was flooded otherwise. It is beyond my comprehension why a normal shower cabin cannot be installed - there was more than enough space for it in the bathroom. Oh and the toilet wasn't flushed when we arrived, revealing the deposits of a previous guest (cleaner?). Great stuff basically. The noise was coming from outside street (even with the window and curtains closed) as well as from the hall, so we hardly had any sleep that night.
We won't be coming back here or recommending it to anyone. A low price is great but the disadvantages are bigger.

muchisimas gracias por el comentario y por haber venido al Hostal Altamar, no podemos más que agradecer haber estado en nuestro hostal y darles mis más sinceras gracias, no puedo dejer pasa la oportunidad para pedir perdon de parte de todo el Staff del hostal por haberles fallado en todas las descripciones que tan correctamente han enumerado y por parte del Ayuntamiento de Almuñecar tambien.
