Great experience

Although a bit far from the center, the hotel is very good, spacious room with a terrace, on the top floor, very complete bathroom, very friendly staff and good breakfast with natural orange juice included, I would return without hesitation for the good value for money.

Not 4-Star

Sorry, this is going to be long!
As someone who travels extensively (even excessively) and stays in hotels more than 60 nights per year, I generally know what to expect from different brands and am rarely disappointed, and therefore rarely write up bad reviews, but in the case of the Ibis Styles A Coruña there were very little redeeming factors.
As an ALL Accor Platinum member, I’ve stayed in many Ibis Styles hotels in the past and generally know the level is about 2-3 stars. However, for some reason the Ibis Styles A Coruña is listed as a 4-star property. This could not be further from the truth and builds guests up to be disappointed as the facilities and services are nowhere near 4-star level. Just one look at other reviews I’ve posted will show we generally stay in 4 and 5 star establishments so I believe I have a good grasp of what a 4-star experience should look like.
I will start by mentioning the good. The staff are generally friendly (though they can be dismissive and will not go out of their way to be helpful—see details further down). The rooms are spacious by Ibis styles standards and generally clean. We had a lovely welcome note and gift as Accor Platinum members in the room and there was even a cute kids toiletry kit on our son’s bed. The design is overall modern and clean and I was thrilled to find a hotel with a large terrace as we travelled to A Coruña specifically for the total Solar eclipse. There is underground parking and it is reasonably priced, and there is a 24h gym in the basement.
Now on to the not-so-good and the reasons Accor need to be honest and properly display this property at a 3-star level (and honestly in my opinion, it’s barely a 3-star). By comparison the Ibis Styles Porto Vecchio, Corsica has a lobby bar and lounge, a rooftop pool with sea views and a gym by the pool and it is rated 3-stars.
Right upon entering the room we noticed there is no way to keep items cool in the room with no fridge and no ice available in the hotel. When we asked at reception where we could get ice to chill beverages, they responded…the grocery store! And of course there are no ice buckets so we had to buy ice at a grocery store and buy a cooler!! Not even remotely a 4-star experience.
There are no coffee making facilities or kettle in the room—this is expected in a regular Ibis Styles, but in a so-called 4-star, these should be standard. There are no glasses in the room, just 3 paper cups in the bathroom that were not even replaced after use! Again, not very 4-star.
There was no iron/ironing board and no rack for luggage. The TV was not working so we asked at reception—they told us to check the cable to make sure it was plugged in—and indeed it was loose. This must be something that happens regularly….again, not a great look!
There are only 2 chairs on the huge terrace, and the outdoor furniture was in a poor state of repair. The wood paneling in the window sills was cracked and pealing, and there were no usb ports—as a welcome gift for platinums they had given a wireless charger that was not useable as it needed to be plugged in to a USB port which they didn’t have!
The breakfast is average with only one hot item and I was surprised to see they’d charged me for a Kid’s breakfast daily when every other Ibis Styles includes breakfast for adults and children in the same room.
Suppose there is a bar, but we never found it so we couldn’t use our complimentary drink vouchers from the ALL app. The hotel staff had told us the Terra Nossa restaurant is not associated with the hotel when we asked about ice, so we assumed we couldn’t use the drink vouchers there.
The location near an industrial area is not a problem itself as it’s actually walkable to the city centre, but there is a strong smell from the factories at times, depending on wind direction, which can be rather unpleasant when enjoying the terrace.
At check out the guest ahead of me in the queue gave his very honest opinion about how poor the experience was for a so called 4-star hotel, especially at the elevated prices for the eclipse, and when my turn came, I was also honest when asked how my stay was. Unsurprisingly I did not receive a request to fill out a survey after my stay as I had from every other hotel on this trip.
If this hotel were correctly displayed as a 3-star (or even 2-star) property, it would be just fine…but listing the Ibis Styles A Coruña as 4-star is setting guests up for disappointment when it comes nowhere close to offering 4-star level services and amenities.

super expensive for the occasion - but dirty and in bad shape

I stayed for 2 nights during the solar eclipse. Normally a room costs 90 euro, now it was 270 - in the whole city prices had gone through the roof for this event. I understand when hotels want to make an extra profit, because of a special celebration in town, but then at least they should make sure all is in good order.
That wasn't. The room was dirty (long hair in the shower, blood stains on the sheets, dirt on the floor, the mattress in bad shape). Staff was kind, that's the plus.
Also, the hotel is very far away from the city centre, as it is in an industrial zone. I was able to make a Bici Coruna account work, and by bicycle it was okay.

Good hotel

A 45-minute walk from María Pita square, it is somewhat far from the center, although it has good facilities. The water pressure in the bathroom was not high but the rest of the room was fine (the pillows were a bit high for my taste). Breakfast was also fine

Standard hotel

After staying in Bilbao and Astorga, we ended up at this hotel booked by the agency. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with the previous ones... If you don't have too many expectations, it's fine...
