Space and Elegance in a Charming Old Border Town

Gästehaus im Flüsterbogan is the slightly more budget-conscious option just across the square from its more luxurious parent establishment, Hotel Börse. But it was certainly everything we needed. Large room, plenty of space and storage, absorbing views to the little lanes and courtyards below. No lift, though, so be prepared to carry luggage up stairs. Reception services (across the square in Hotel Börse) were friendly and helpful. We had a car, and they directed us to an enclosed carpark a short block away for only €3 a night.
Breakfast is across the square in Hotel Börse, and those who've seen the movie may recognise the setting as one of the locations used in "The Grand Budapest Hotel". Excellent and sumptuous, and we felt privileged to be breakfasting there.
Görlitz is a charming old town of cobbled alleys and squares, on the Germany/Poland border. It's an enjoyable place to explore, and we recommend a stroll across the bridge and along some of the bars and cafes facing the river on the Polish side of the border.

Der (fast) perfekte Übernachtungsort in Görlitz

Mitten in der Altstadt vom wunderschönen Görlitz liegt das zum Hotel Börse dazugehörige "Gästehaus im Flüsterbogen". Im Hotel checkt man ein und gegenüber geht man ein paar Stufen hinauf ins Gästehaus. Die Zimmer sind groß, haben massive Holzböden, die Möbel sind schlicht und schön, das Bad geräumig und sauber.
Das Bett ist bequem und man schläft herrlich ruhig.
Zum frühstücken geht man ins Hotel und bedient sich am Buffet. Kaffee oder Tee werden an den Tisch gebracht. Ich habe das Frühstück in besserer Erinnerung. Die Auswahl ist recht mager. Jetzt gibt es zwar 6 Sorten dünnen faden Scheibenkäse, vom Weichkäse gibt es an den 3 Tagen immer nur eine kleine Ecke. Warum nicht regionale Produzenten unterstützen anstatt abgepackte Ware?! Eier werden auf Wunsch zubereitet, doch die einzige Dame vom Service vergisst unsere Bestellung. Da fragen wir doch nach und bekommen keine Entschuldigung.

Eine bessere Lage gibt es in Görlitz nicht

Das Gästehaus ergänzt das Zimmerangebot des luxuriösen Hotels Börse am Untermarkt. Hier wohnt man in einem der zwölf Zimmer eines gotischen Hauses, am wichtigsten und spektakulärstem Platz der Altstadt – allerdings etwas günstiger als gegenüber in der Börse. Das Gebäude wurde im 14. Jahrhundert errichtet, jedoch im Lauf der Zeit mehrfach umgebaut. Das Portal, der „Flüsterbogen“, verfügt über eine besondere Akustik und zählt zu den Plätzen der Stadt, die jeder Besucher gesehen haben sollte. Die Zimmer sind groß, rustikal und mit schlichten alten Möbeln und bequemen Betten eingerichtet. Jedes hat seinen eigenen Schnitt und Charakter.
Im Hof befindet sich in einem historischen Tonnengewölbe das „Lucie Schulte“, eines der besten Restaurants der Stadt. Die Räumlichkeiten mit Hofterrasse, Weinkeller und Kostbar eignen sich auch hervorragend für Feierlichkeiten.
