Amazing hotel but check the layout of your room when booking!

This is a really special hotel and we loved it. It is in a great location in the middle of Longyearbyen, with multiple shops and restaurants minutes away. It is built entirely from reclaimed wood and is full of quirky details - every room is different and the building is full of odd little corners. I would reiterate what another reviewer said though - check with reception when booking what the layout / location of beds in your room is. We had booked through booking.com and so did not do this. We had reserved the suite which was lovely (it's room 17) but since we are not a couple, this meant one of us would sleep in the double bed in the cosy separate bedroom, and the other would take one of the beds in the "loft". All fine - but the loft is reached by a "ladder" - not even a regular ladder as you find in many of the other rooms, but a log with notches cut out of it. I have small feet and am relatively mobile, but even so it was not exactly a relaxing way to go to bed, and I did not want to have to go down during the night! That said, it was a lovely lovely stay, breakfast in the big breakfast room was excellent.

Most gorgeous hotel with wonderful staff and I think the best breakfast buffet I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to come back. First class.

Basecamp is a stunning property and gives the authentic feel of a base camp ie no tv, phones, or wardrobes in bedrooms. The breakfast had great variety and eggs Benedict was a popular request. The only downside for me as a sole traveller in a triple room was that I had to pay the full price. There are no facilities such as a sauna or pool - but this is the high Arctic so I'm not sure if any accommodation has these facilities! Staff were wonderful - friendly and super helpful.

We loved our stay here. It is a unique place — much more interesting than a crowded hotel. The breakfast was extraordinary, the staff helpful and friendly, and I would stay there again.
