Stairway to Heaven

This hotel is well placed for the museums. After booking, I received a very helpful "How to get there" email and, although I walked from the Centraal Station, the 397 bus passes the door and would be a very good way of reaching the hotel from the airport. Forget this hotel if you don't like stairs. The hotel states that it does not have a lift but, after the first 10 stairs to the door, there are another 40 or so to reception. However, once you are there, you are in a delightful hotel.
The breakfast room, where there is tea and coffee all day (with biscuits) is bright and sunny and a room that inspires one to be creative. Whilst here, I should say that the breakfast starts at 0830h. Not a bad breakfast and normal for the Netherlands (no hot food).
My room was at the back and up two more floors (another 38 steps!). Comfortable with a wash basin, desk. Can't remember if there was a TV but I think not. WiFi worked well. Toilet and shower rooms were off the corridor outside. My room was quiet and very light.
The price was good value for summer in Amsterdam and location. The place was very clean. The management were helpful and keen to give advice should one need it (for instance, suggesting places nearby to eat where the locals might go, advising on a local market etc.)
If you are reading this review and want to go to a museum, just a reminder to book on line beforehand. The Van Gogh Museum had a two week waiting list when I was there)

AVOID. highly hostile worker.

VERY hostile woman owner or worker? Buzzed me in the refused to let me in for some reason? I'd booked a room months in advance I didn't just turn and demand a room. She Assaulted me. Insulted my disability. Threw my suitcase downstairs smashing some diabetes medicine which I can literally die without and then laughed in my face about and said she hopes someone steals my luggage. Tried to push me downstairs then tried to get a man to also push me downstairs. Said God knows what lies to the police in dutch(I called them). And played the "boo hoo I'm just a poor old lady card" I'm still owed a lot of money for the booking which I'm pretty sure they are now trying to not pay. as I didn't even get past the front door. If she is the first point of contact God knows what a nightmare the rest of it is like. How this is rated 4.1 stars on the website I booked through is beyond me. Completely blindsided

Not totally terrible…would not stay here again.

Breakfast hours very late….especially if you want to go see things. Rooms very spartan but clean. I wanted some coffee at 8 AM, as there is supposed to be free coffee and tea? I didn’t think 0800 was too early, as reception opens at 8. Staff were somewhat friendly…relatively knowledgeable about where metro stop is or closest place to get coffee before 8! Sorry, just need my coffee…
This hotel is far from Central Station, but close to art museums. Be ready for steep stairs!

Steep entrance, great location!

This is an excellent small hotel. The room was tiny with shared facilities but good value for money. The location was great, right next to some of the main museums and within walking distance of city centre.
The stairs up are very very steep so won't suit anyone with slight mobility issues or large suitcases.
With the small rooms, it was great that there was access to a "sitting room" with a hot drink in the evenings (until 10pm I think)
Breakfast was included and was good. Staff very nice.

A 10 IS TOO SMALL

I arrived very late on Saturday so I waited at Schipol on Sunday to enter. Check in was at 2:00 p.m. but they prioritized cleaning my room so that I could rest after a night of waiting. At 11:00 a.m. I was already in bed. Before, ONA, one of the concierges had offered me coffee and helped me with my suitcase (there is no elevator). Super friendly, he also helped me unload it the day I was leaving. Bathroom and shower are shared but they are IMPECCABLE at all times. The typical building of the Nordic countries, very cozy and EXCELLENT location just around the corner from the Van Gogh Museum and 25 minutes walk from Dam Square. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT if you don't want to spend a lot to sleep and clean up, which is definitive for what you are going to be in. the hotel, the city is worth walking around and getting lost. I FALL IN LOVE WITH AMSTERDAM.
