We enjoyed the warm welcome by Sybille and Frenus very much. The rooms are cozy and individual. Breakfast was very rich, nothing was missing. We like to think back to the evenings by the fireplace and the very interesting conversations with our hosts. Thank you for the wonderful time with you!

Quirky, Artistic, and Full of Character

Staying at Alternative Space in Swakopmund feels like visiting your eccentric (and fascinating) uncle and aunt! It’s a one-of-a-kind guesthouse with a truly personal touch—expect lively conversations, creative energy, and a very relaxed, homey atmosphere.
The whitewashed rooms are arranged around a lovely courtyard filled with bougainvillea and passionfruit vines, complete with hidden corners and cozy spots to unwind. It’s a place that invites curiosity and conversation.
Breakfast is a DIY affair in the communal kitchen, adding to the “make yourself at home” vibe. Our only real downside was the bed—it was on the narrow side and not the most comfortable.
That said, we really enjoyed our time here. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you appreciate quirky charm over polished perfection, Alternative Space offers a memorable and engaging stay.

Fun and quirky

This is a delightfully quirky B&B. Comfortable, unique rooms with a lovely garden to enjoy. You can make your breakfast to your own taste, using a huge variety of ingredients they provide. You're not walking distance to the waterfront, but it's an easy drive down there.

A beautiful space in a lovely town

Alternative Space was easily one of the best accommodations we stayed in while in Namibia. We felt very secure while at the guesthouse and although small, the space has been well used. The outside space includes a private parking area, a communal area with a BBQ and a secluded secret garden space. Internally are the rooms, a lounge with a log fire, kitchen you can use, dining area and library. The rooms are clean and have a lovely layout.
I enjoy my food and mostly disappointed with the pitiful breakfasts at various guesthouses, not at Alternative Space, it was delicious and plentiful!
Owners are very hospitable and helpful when wanting to know places to visit on your journey across Namibia. Both the owners have interesting stories as to how they came to be in Swakopmund, if you have the time ask them about it and their experiences in Namibia. Although do not allow Frenas to tell you about his conspiracy theories!
It is very easy to get to the centre of town and took us about 15-20 minutes. The town is centred around the pier with a number of activities at the seafront. The main commercial section has a number of cafes, shops, bars and restaurants. We felt safe wonder around the busier parts of the town.

We very much enjoyed the warm welcome by Sybille and Frenus who generously offered us a home away from home. We will remember generous kitchen, beautiful quirky rooms and very interesting conversations on various aspects of Namibian society and politics. Many thanks for your hospitality!
