Staff at the property were lovely! You sort of get what you pay for, it’s nice they’ve made the effort to modernise the property but you can tell it’s still a little worn. But as mentioned you get what you pay for.
One down side was the water ran really low on our last night, only to wake up the following morning with the toilet not flushing and no water coming out of any taps. I had to use a water bottle to get water out of the pool so the toilet would flush.

Awful.

Horrible, all bad, the room with broken windows, a balcony that could not be accessed because the door was stuck and broken, the night fatal and tense, there was a rat inside and we had a hard time, there was a lot of humidity and bugs everywhere, the dirty pool, the toilet malfunctioned and no water came out, I do not recommend it

Bed was like concrete. Zero amenities. 1 roll of toilet paper and not replaced even when only a few square remained. No blankets only a sheet. Room opened to back alley which reeked of sewer. We were pool level perhaps the floors above were better. Price was cheap at $80 Canadian a night. This is first bad Hotel/Hostel/Air BnB I’ve ever given in our 10 years of visiting here. Rooftop patio had great views. Shower was an adventure and sink in bathroom shoots ever direction like streaming lasers except towards your hands.

One of our best stays on the island!

Balu has very kind staff, comfortable beds and pillows, HOT water for showers with great water pressure, two rooftops to catch the sunrise and sunset. Plenty of space to have a yoga practice on the sunrise side or to just hang out. The room was cleaned daily, the mini fridge worked well, plenty of space for our clothes and great WiFi! Lots of books in the lobby to enjoy as well.
