Very nice

We discovered this hotel and associated restaurant while walking on the beach of the small island of Ille aux Nattes and took a break there with cocktails. The complex is nice with bungalow s. The waiter was very friendly and the drinks delicious.

Amazing getaway

This place was amazing. We may have been the only guest at the resort. We had a good personalized experience. The restaurant was always good. The whale watching activity was amazing. It was so peaceful to sleep on the beach and wake up on the ocean.

Lovely place

I really liked Maningory. The staff, without exception, were lovely. Happy, smiling, and polite. Likewise the owner.
My bungalow, one row back from the bar/restaurant/reception, was perfect for a few days of R&R after a tiring (but awesome) few weeks exploring Madagascar. Simple, but clean, with a nice verandah and gas-fired hot water. The WiFi reached it too - just! - but I’m not sure it would reach those set further back. The one thing missing was a hammock or a comfy chair - the chairs on the verandah were made from solid wood.
They sent a boat to collect me when I arrived, and I immediately felt relaxed. There isn’t a lot to do, but that’s the point.
The food in the restaurant was excellent. It’s a small menu which changes daily, but I was really impressed with everything I chose. More expensive than other places I’d stayed (ie 30-35k for a main course) but also mostly far better too.
The only issue I had really was with sand fleas and mosquitoes. Over the five days I was on the island, we had sunshine and showers each day. One day, it rained pretty much constantly - perfect for sand fleas, and for those awful mosquitoes with white spots which are out all day. Sit still for a minute or two on or near the beach, and sand flies would attack. Go further inland, and the mozzies would take over. It was a total pain. To survive meant slathering myself in (1) DEET for the mosquitoes (2) citronella oil for the sand fleas and (3) sun lotion. I stank and felt/looked like an oil slick. It was only a matter of time each day before I gave up, washed it all off, and sat in a long sleeved shirt, socks and trousers. Or climbed inside the defences of my mosquito netted bed. I particularly hate insect repellent, and use it only as a last resort - normally this is fine with just the usual night time mosquitoes to consider, but this just wasn’t playing fair! Not a great deal the resort can do about this. It didn’t ruin my visit, but it tried my patience, and I spent most of my time scratching, despite my best endeavours.

Paradise

We enjoyed our stay at Maningory and on this fabulous little island paradise. The reef in front is superb for snorkeling. The beach is beautiful. My daughter did have a full on reaction to the sand flies even though we tried to use coconut oil- not a reflection on the hotel of course- just be aware that Ile aux nattes and Ile St. Marie have the sand flies. The owner was welcoming, available, and helpful throughout our stay. The room was beachfront with a nice seating area outside- basic beach bungalow style. All the staff were great. Location can't be beat!

Tropical Paradise

A perfect beach in front of you, the most delicious fish on your table, a group of local musicians playing their authentic songs, gently, as if for themselves and you are allowed to listen, their rhythm overlaid by the rhythm of the water on the sand, the rustling of the palm leaves over your head - still questions why I decided to spend one more week there than originally planned? I was truly delighted of this place. It has got exactly the balance between authenticity and the comfortable place to relax, comfy bed with mosquito net, beautifully designed shower, hot water, nice porch with view on the sea. I have been travelling for many years in Asia and Africa and this is one of the nicest places I found and that without exotic costs!
Owner and staff are hospitable and friendly, the boat transfer from the airport is the first and the last of many positive experiences. Walks on the island, trips in those picturesque pirogues, swimming, snorkeling are pleasant. And the food is excellent, I love sea food, so I did not try the zebu dishes but other guests were pleased. There are pasta dishes, but if you are vegetarian the variety is limited.
Don't try to book through their website - when I han no reaction after a week I booked through a partner agency of Tripadvisor with no problems.
A necessary advice: Women on the beach sell citronelle oil against the "Mukafu", small sand flies. I had no more problems after I used that, but a very bad and itchy night after the first day without! Knowing that you find hardly a place as pleasant as Île de Nattes, and the Maningory Hotel.
