Total scam - better to avoid

Booked the apartment for 2 night early Aug. for 4 persons via Booking.com well in advance and prepaid the same. About a week prior our arrival confirmed our arrival time and everything seemed to be in order. When arrived to the location called the number provided and asked them to bring the keys to us. Person on the other end said at first that he need to go through some papers and he'll call be back in 5 min. He never did and was very hard to reach again. Finally when he answered we were told that apartment wasn't available! In addition they hadn't anything to offer instead. Town was fully booked and apartment owner just left us there without any assistance. Well he did promise to come to negotiate in person in about 30min, but less surprisingly he never did... We've travelled quite a bit, but this was the very first time we faced such a bad service. There was no cancellation or any notice of the non-availability in advance. That's totally unacceptable and wouldn't recommend anyone to trust this apartment provider if you don't want unpleasant surprises on your holiday.
Fortunately Booking.com was able to arrange us another apartment after several hours of waiting about 10km from the city center, but that's another story.
