Best fishing I've experienced so far

Recently booked a stay in Lamu but we're diverted to another close by property with help of the owner, which was also newer and nice too with AC and private roof top terrace.
Although I didn't directly stay here, I found Mr Taufiq, the owner, to be super friendly, humble and helpful. He does a good job in taking care of his guests and making sure we had an enjoyable stay, even arranging another place for us. We came for the big fish and gosh did we catch. Ask for a gentleman called Thabid, you won't regret it, he is the man of the seas and beast fish whisperer!
The food here was excellent! I didn't expect it but it exceeded my expectations. Tuna steak to pizza all excellent! They even have an Italian coffee machine which is very very important to coffee heads like myself.
I can definitely recommend this place and will be back again for the great food and excellent fishing.
Lovely place, easy going people, nothing was an issue! Very close to peponi hotel, manda island, the airport and lamu town

Gorgeous Guest House on waterfront in Shela

We have just had 3 magical days in Shela staying at the charming Bahari Guest House. Bahari is right on the foreshore just 2 doors down from the infamous Peponi. The ground floor is dedicated to and open air restaurant. We had the entire top floor to ourselves, it had gorgeous day beds including one that swings and the through breeze is a delight. We spent many hours relaxing in the day beds. It was a 1 minute to Peponi beyond which another minute or 2 to the beach. The tides are huge and the water immediately in front of the hotel is good to swim in as it’s clean although there is a bit of boat traffic which we loved watching from the comfort of the restaurant. The restaurant is fitted out with a fantastic coffee bar, like best barista coffee ever! The staff are a delight and organised trips in boats etc. for us.

Best base in the hub of Shela

Shela Bahari is everything you need in Shela
It’s at the waters edge near Peponi Hotel and you can sit in the breezy restaurant and watch the day’s events of dhow’s, donkeys and locals.
We had the entire top floor to ourselves. It included a big bed, single bed, ensuite, aircon in the evenings and it was ice cold.
There was a lovely large day bed which being on the top level really was cool and in a large undercover area.
The restaurant has great food and barista coffee is really good.
The owner and his daughter introduced themselves and were always available.

The location is great. But the property owner wasn't honoring expedia booking . Since it was late (5:30pm) , he allowed me to stay one night but next day I had to check out. Overpriced for the quality or upkeep of the lace. It is great for people looking for unconventional family owned traditional set up but a non for business travellers. Only one electrical point for charging in one room was another turndown

Delicious food in a stunning setting!

We dined at Bahari more times than any other restaurant in Shela! The jumbo prawns are outstanding, and the meals are well-priced and generous. The service is excellent, and the setting is beautiful. I highly recommend it. If you're in a large group, be sure to let them know ahead of time to ensure everything is available.
