Good location, interesting breakfast concept—however, the parking service is a major problem
We spent four days at the Hotel Continentale in Trieste for a long weekend. The central location in the middle of the old town is undoubtedly a big plus and ideal for exploring the city on foot.
Since there is hardly any parking in the center, we consciously chose the hotel because a valet parking service is offered. However, this exact service was the biggest disappointment of our entire stay.
We needed the car twice during our stay. The first time, we had to wait about 35 minutes—longer than expected, but still acceptable. On the day of departure, however, the situation turned into a real nuisance: From the time of the request until our vehicle was handed over, an incredible 2 hours and 15 minutes passed. Since we already had follow-up appointments in Austria, this put us under significant time pressure.
It was particularly disappointing that the reception, despite multiple inquiries—not only from us, but also from other waiting guests—could not provide any information as to when the vehicles would arrive. One got the impression that the staff themselves had no information whatsoever. Even when we offered to pick up our car ourselves, no one wanted or was able to tell us where it had even been parked. When the vehicle finally arrived, it was also unceremoniously parked on the sidewalk of a busy street – not a particularly confidence-building approach.
The rooms are clean and well-maintained, though rather small. Our room faced the street. In a lively city like Trieste, this unfortunately means that it can get quite loud at night with the window open.
A real highlight, however, is the breakfast. Instead of a classic buffet, there is a small, high-quality menu from which freshly prepared dishes can be ordered. We liked this concept extremely well. The quality was outstanding, and reorders were possible at any time without any problems.
Overall, the hotel leaves a mixed impression. The excellent location and the very good breakfast clearly speak in favor of the establishment. However, the completely inadequately organized parking service and the sometimes overwhelmed impression at the reception significantly tarnish the overall picture. Given the not exactly inexpensive room rate, we would have expected significantly more here. For us, the experience with the parking service in particular is unfortunately a decisive point that speaks against another stay.

thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are truly sorry for the difficulties you encountered regarding the parking service. We fully understand how a long waiting time, especially on the day of departure and with scheduled commitments ahead, can cause inconvenience and additional stress.
We would like to take this opportunity to clarify a few aspects regarding our parking arrangements. The very central location of Hotel Continentale, in the heart of Trieste’s historic centre and within a pedestrian area, unfortunately does not allow us to have a private car park. For this reason, we have established an agreement with the nearby Park San Giusto, offering our Guests discounted rates while allowing them to keep their car available at all times should they wish to use it during their stay.
Alongside this option, we offer a Valet Parking service managed by an external company specialising in this service and owning several garages nearby. This solution is particularly recommended for Guests who prefer to leave the management of their vehicle entirely in our hands, without any further concerns, especially for those who wish to enjoy Trieste on foot and do not plan to use their car during their stay.
We understand your comment regarding the possibility of collecting the vehicle independently. However, our Reception team generally does not provide directions for self-retrieval for two specific reasons: the exact location of each vehicle is an internal matter managed by our service provider, and the garages used are not open to the public. The safety and security of our Guests remain our highest priority.
That being said, we carefully take note of your comments regarding the waiting time. Even during periods when several retrieval requests occur at the same time, we agree that the service should be managed as smoothly and comfortably as possible. We will discuss your feedback with our partner in order to evaluate further organisational improvements.
We would also like to clarify that, once the vehicle is returned, it is left in the parking spaces reserved for the Hotel for short stays. As you may have noticed, this is the only possible solution, considering that Hotel Continentale’s entrance is located in a pedestrian area, not accessible to regular traffic, and in some points even stopping a car without causing inconvenience can be quite challenging.
Regarding the room, we are pleased that you appreciated the cleanliness and the care of our spaces. Our rooms are equipped with excellent sound insulation when the windows are closed and the air conditioning is in use. Rooms overlooking Via San Spiridione, a central street open to vehicle traffic, may naturally be more affected by the lively atmosphere of the city. We also offer rooms overlooking the pedestrian street, which is animated throughout the day and evening by the presence of shops and local venues, as well as rooms facing the internal courtyard, which are particularly quiet and peaceful.
Room sizes also vary depending on the category selected. For Guests who prefer more spacious accommodation, we always recommend considering our Superior rooms or higher categories when making a reservation.
We are truly pleased that you enjoyed our breakfast concept, a service we particularly care about. It was created with the aim of offering a more refined and personalised experience compared to a traditional buffet, with high-quality products prepared fresh upon request.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback, which helps us continuously improve our services.
Kind regards,
Alessandra
