Great location for us - a couple of minutes walk to several eating places, small corner shop type mini-market and Piazza Barberini which has a metro stop and e-scooter/bike park; 8-10 minutes to Spanish steps and Trevi fountain, 12-15 minutes to the main station, 15 or so to Pathenon and 20 to Piazza Navona and the Colesseum.
Some of the cleanest rooms we have stayed in. En-suite and TV in the room, plenty of hot water with good water pressure! Everything that we needed - towels/soap/shower gel/loo roll, full window blinds, TV and a safe in the room, plenty of plug sockets, individual room air conditioning. Small entrance / reception area with a sofa and access to a small kitchenette - not to cook / self-catering, but access to fridge, microwave, facilities to make coffee etc - plenty for us to sort out fruit and coffee for breakfast!
Quiet location - set back off a side street, with a secure entrance, in a block with apartments and some businesses (dentist etc) on the ground floor. We heard some footsteps from neighbours, occasional siren and some rumbling (?underground or lift) but nothing that disturbed us. Comfortable beds and a good night's sleep.
We were a little confused as we thought we had booked a hotel with 24 hour front desk etc, but it was more of rooms in a small B&B / guest house type set up - but we need not have worried! Excellent host and happy to help to give advice, arrange late check in (small fee), airport transfer etc. The entrance was locked ouaila

A Star Inn is more like a serviced apartment than a traditional hotel, with no front desk or on-site staff. The location is excellent, within walking distance of most major Rome attractions, plus plenty of restaurants and activities nearby.
The room was clean, tidy, very quiet, and serviced daily. The decor was also nice, with furniture that felt authentically Italian.
However, there were some issues. The room didn’t match the booking - we paid for a garden view but faced a wall and part of another building, so there was effectively no view. Check-in is self-service, which worked fine as instructions were clear, but there’s no one on-site if needed.
Transparency around costs was poor. The booking listed city tax as €30 but we were charged €42. Despite confirming a late check-in in advance, there was no mention of a fee despite many conversations of planning with the property manager. On day two we found a €30 charge left in the room, which we paid to avoid issues, but it felt unfair and poorly communicated.
The room also got cold in the evenings. The sheets and blanket were very thin and the heater didn’t work.
Facilities felt limited. No iron is provided, and no tea/coffee in the room (breakfast is on request). Overall, good location and cleanliness, but lacking transparency and basic amenities.

“The Best Choice If You Want to Ruin Your Trip by Getting Trapped in Your Hotel Room Twice”

❌ Trapped inside the hotel room twice during our honeymoon due to a broken door.
❌ Hotel staff told us to sleep with the door open instead of fixing the problem.
❌ Refund was promised but never given — hotel stopped responding after our stay.
We were trapped inside our hotel room twice during our honeymoon. This hotel shows no concern for guest safety whatsoever.
We stayed at this hotel while visiting Rome for our honeymoon, and it was truly the worst experience we have ever had.
On the first night, after returning to our room from dinner, the door malfunctioned and we became trapped inside the room.
After contacting the staff, a repairman arrived about an hour later. However, after more than an hour of attempts, he was still unable to fix the door. The hotel’s proposed solution was unbelievable:
“Sleep with the door open.”
Is that a reasonable response to honeymoon guests, especially in a foreign city like Rome?
We clearly refused and requested that the door be properly fixed by 7:00 AM the next morning. The staff said they understood. However, the next morning, we were trapped inside the room again, this time for an entire hour.
Because of this issue, we were unable to follow our planned honeymoon itinerary for two full days, and we spent the entire trip feeling anxious and stressed.
This was not a minor inconvenience — it was a serious and obvious safety issue.
We requested a refund from the hotel. While the issue appeared to be under discussion during our stay, all communication stopped completely after our trip ended.
We received no official apology, no compensation, and no refund.
There are many excellent hotels in Rome.
If you value safety, responsibility, and proper customer service, I strongly advise against staying at this hotel.

With this hotel, you must coordinate your arrival with the folks running it. Even though we did coordinate, we and another couple wound up waiting on the steps almost 45 minutes for Bruno to arrive to check us in. Even then, the "check-in" process took another 15-20 minutes, all the while my 4 year old needed to go to the bathroom. The room is small but relatively clean. Our room backed up to the communal space and every time someone comes in/out, the automatic lights come on and shone underneath our door in the middle of the night. The hotel is within walking distance to several main sites in the city which was one of the only benefits. Additionally, they will coordinate a taxi to/from the airport; just be aware it's double what the street taxis charge. Personally, we won't be returning.
