OVERALL
The room was amazing: it was clean and the beds were good to sleep in. You have air conditioning and good lighting. The location is also quite good: it is within a walking distance from the metro and train stations, and the garden is pretty. Also, we really appreciated the possibility to leave our luggage inside the place before the official check-in time because our plane landed early.
Now, we did have some hiccups along the way. Nothing major, easy fixes for the future. I hope they are taken as such.
HOW IT WORKS
First: You can contact them only via call. Which works fine: I asked for the possibility to leave our luggage inside and the woman who answered with good English, assured it was okay.
Then few days before your arrival, you need to do online check-in. You get a WhatsApp message. You need to let them know the time you are coming, but earliest choice is at 14 o’clock. So if you need to leave your luggage (while not checking in), you need to contact them. I did (on the phone it was okay) - but on the day of our arrival, I never got the response from the owner on WhatsApp. Then I contacted the number I spoke before. She was the best: spoke good English, assured everything was still okay. Great!
Unfortunately, this information never reached the cleaners. They were helpful and friendly and I felt bad confusing them. But in the end, we were able to leave our bags and check in later on. At the time, we got a key card from the cleaner but our code for the room door never arrived (nor obviously it wasn’t the one for the main doors either). We also heard that one night, one of the other guests couldn’t use their code to the door either. I am not sure, how this is supposed to work because cleaners are not always there.
BREAKFAST
Then. Next morning there was breakfast. It was nothing like in the pictures (in Booking.com): plastic-packaged ready-made sweet cakes, two tea options, coffee, one white bread, cereal and milk. Not any kind of juice, no berries. There were 4 people and only 3 croissants. I split the two croissants between the three of us.
Was asked about the cleaning: We said it wasn’t needed today but did request more toilet paper. Agreed that cleaning tomorrow would be good. All good.
Next day, breakfast again. Now we don’t even have what we had yesterday: bread and cereal was in the cupboard. Hidden. No milk available. The cleaning lady was different. There were not bowls or big cups left for cereal, in the end she gave me cereal from a paper cup. Milk was in the fridge. I can take food myself, I don’t need to be served and I don’t need anything fancy but this was a bit odd choice (cereal from a paper cup in a four star bed & breakfast?) while everything was tucked away.
I also asked her about the possibility of the airport transport but she maybe didn’t know it was mentioned on the B&B’s site and guided us to other taxi services. Helpful - kinda - but would have trusted the mentioned shuttle service more. Also: Our room was not cleaned on that day. So information did not transfer from the regular cleaning lady to the next. It also seems that setting the breakfast is not agreed upon everyone: what is served.
Third day: we ate the left-overs of the party from last night (it was delicious but still got me thinking, what we would have been eating if it wasn’t for the party?). Now the same lady from the first days was present and room got cleaned very nicely and for breakfast everything was out in the open again. Nothing like in the pictures but like it was on the first day. Fair enough. She was super friendly and lively despite the language barrier. She was also seen cleaning the pool earlier (we didn’t use the pool because it was dirty and unheated).
SUMMARY AND SUGGESTIONS
All in all. It was an experience and I would understand all these hiccups if this was a new establishment. The place has a lot of potential. The rooms and garden are very nice. It doesn’t need to be any fancier.
But it feels odd that so many things were unclear. Who to contact, how everything works. In the kitchen there’s toaster on the shelf (for show, not plugged in), same for microwave and water kettle: not plugged in. Just decorations.
1. Maybe update the pictures on Booking because now the breakfast was inconsistent and to be fair the place isn’t exactly free either. So once you either update your breakfast to match the pictures or update your pictures to match the actual breakfast.
2. Clear instruction for codes (the room door still baffles me. How come we never got the code?) and
3. who to contact and when.
Would book again but would schedule breakfast in a cafe so I wouldn’t be disappointed by it. :-/
