TO AVOID - Stay away

Solmaris ‘ LUXURY’ rooms ???????
I booked this B&B because it looked fresh and fun on Instagram and online — with sea views, beach chairs, a trendy terrace serving cocktails, etc.
For €320 per night, I wasn’t expecting high end luxury, but I did expect something charming, well-maintained, and pleasant.
Unfortunately, it was so disappointing that we ended up leaving right away!
• When we arrived, there was no parking. You have to park on the street, about 300m away, and the area didn’t feel particularly safe. Honestly, this is also one of the least interesting parts of Puglia.
• We were first given a tour of the property:
o The chairs on the terrace were arranged in a messy, careless way.
o On Instagram, the terrace looks great — cool drinks (cocktails, Aperol…), stylish furniture, sea views. But in reality: no bar, no ice machine, no fridge — so where would those cocktails even come from? The sea view is blocked by overgrown pine trees and a broken screen between the terrace and the beach.
o There is a small gate leading to the beach, though.
o The so-called "reserved beach chairs" are just a box where you can grab two old chairs and a parasol yourself — and drag them down to the beach.
o The outdoor shower floor was full of sand (years’ worth, it seemed) — clearly not cleaned or maintained.
o The “patio” is just a covered space between two buildings, with the saddest reception area I’ve ever seen. The two brothers sit there all day in the dark, under artificial lighting, and that’s also where breakfast is served — in the same cramped space right by the entrance and reception. It’s underwhelming, to say the least.
• We were told to unload our luggage (which we didn’t) and to pay first (which we did) before seeing the room. That was already a red flag !!!!!!
o The shutters in the room were closed — shouldn’t you open them when expecting guests? Mattia had even asked via WhatsApp when we’d be arriving.
o The “junior” room was very bare — no decoration at all.
o Instead of the crisp white bedding shown online, we got dark brown sheets.
o The room looked out onto a vacant, overgrown lot — not the nice terrace, greenery, or flowers shown in the website photos.
o We didn’t like the room, so Manuele (I think that was his name) called his brother Mattia out of another room to show us a different one.
o They showed us the “King Suite,” which was essentially the same sad room with mustard-yellow sheets, as far as I remember. The sea view was also blocked by tall cypress trees.
o It felt more like a monastery cell than a vacation room — cold and uninviting.
o No fridge, no coffee machine, small, dark, outdated bathroom… all this for €320 a night (or €350 in August)?
o Also, no swimming pool (which we already knew).
WE DECIDED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.
And I’m sure we’re not the only ones who’ve walked out. We don’t understand the positive comments.
Maybe good for backpackers, but how dare they call it ‘luxury’ rooms in their name !!!!!!
• When we tried to leave, Manuele couldn’t open the electric gate, and when we reached the barrier at the end of the long side street, that wouldn’t open either. Everything felt so run-down ! (Or maybe Manuele was just too lazy to come close enough with the remote for it to work.) the whole situation felt like a scene from Fawlty Towers, with Manuele playing the part perfectly.
• They (understandably) didn’t want to fully refund our €690 deposit. I suggested they keep half (€345) and return the rest, but after “asking their father,” they refused.
So, they made €690 just for showing us their pitiful rooms. Great business model.
I even told them: return half the deposit and I won’t write a review. They accused me of blackmail .
I hope they invest the €690 in improving the B&B. It wouldn’t take much to make it charming — but the willingness and skills clearly aren’t there.
The brothers told us “this is a B&B, not a hotel” — but then why is there no warm welcome? Isn’t that exactly what a B&B is supposed to offer?
• On a positive note: kudos to the person who manages the Instagram page — they do an incredibly professional job!
IN SHORT: Avoid this place. For the same price or slightly more, you can find something far better and more beautiful — which we eventually did (with a swimming pool!).
This review reflects exactly how we experienced it, and everything stated here is accurate- shared in the hope of sparing others the same disappointment, even though the owner ill likely dispute everything, as he has done with other negative reviews wich clearly shows he has difficulty accepting criticism
Met vriendelijke groeten,
Jan Abbeloos

Cordiali saluti
