Great weekend in Alghero

We took advantage of our bank holiday in Ireland to get some much needed sunshine. When looking for accommodation we found hotels in sardinia very expensive so opted for this B&B instead and booked through www.hostelworld.com. It was more reasonably priced than other B&Bs but it's not really a B&B in the traditional sense. I would call it more a shared apt with 2 bedrooms. So you book one room in the apt and share a bathroom and living room and balcony, with the other bedroom. This was well explained so we understood this before booking. Grazia comes every morning to make breakfast. She was so helpful and cooked eggs for my husband who can't eat anything with wheat (italian breakfast is all breads, cakes, biscuits, perfect for those with a sweet tooth). As it was the start of August, Alghero was packed so we hired a scooter to escape the crowds. Grazia recommended some wonderful beaches just 15 min drive away. She also suggested a little restaurant on the beach with excellent seafood called il ginepro. It was late on the first night when we arrived so she also suggested a great little local restaurant 2 mins from the B&B so we didn't have to walk into the old town. Some might prefer to be closer to the old town it's a 20 min walk, but the B&B is located just off the main beach road and is to the north of the town so quick access to airport and the other amazing beaches in porto conte, porticciolo, bombarde. She allowed us to leave our bags there all day when we were leaving too and called us a taxi for the aiport. As were were only there for the weeekend it was invaluable getting such good local advice as we just spent our time enjoying ourselves rather than finding our feet. So I would highly recommend this B&B for those looking for budget accommodation in Alghero.

Alghero Dream? More like Alghero Nightmare

We stayed here for 8 nights. We would have left if we'd been able to find anywhere else to stay. There are various reasons why we did not have an enjoyable stay here. If it was just one two things which were a problem it wouldn't have been so bad but there were so many things about this place that just weren't right. Here's a few.
This accommodation is not a B&B in a conventional sense. It is a two bedroom flat in a block in the new town of Alghero. This is not our idea of a B&B and it would be more accurate to market this as an apartment.
Noise. The 'B&B' is on one of the main thoroughfares in the new town. We were constantly woken up throughout the 8 nights we stayed here by traffic noise, and various comings and goings on outside. Also there is a large weekly street market which sets up right outside the window at 7am on Wednesdays. We were very tired by the end of the week!
Even in September it was really hot so we had to leave the windows open in our room overnight. Not only did this mean we were woken up all the time by noise outside but also by the heat. A fan would have been a good idea.
The 'B&B' is poorly insulated against sound both internally and externally. We were unlucky to be sharing the accomodation with guests who were really noisy late at night. But even if you're lucky enough to be sharing with people who are courteous you will experience a level of noise here, simply because the walls are so thin! You will hear the TV, the toilet and shower being used, everything, whether you like it or not!
You have to share a bathroom with the other guests. This wasn't made clear when we booked.
We had to ask for a key to our room - clearly security is an issue here. We did eventually get one but only after asking.
Ditto fresh towels.
Breakfast. This is fine it you like biscuits and long-life pastries wrapped in plastic. To be fair the owner did bring in fruit as an alternative but the breakfast was not inspiring. We also felt quite uncomfortable having breakfast at all when the owner sat in the same room looking bored reading a magazine or using her mobile while we ate.
Room cleaning. Our room was never cleaned once while we were here. I found this really annoying because the owner could have done this while we ate breakfast! Again this is another thing I found misleading about this accomodation which is marketed as a B&B - you expect your room to be cleaned even if it's just that the bed has been made, rubbish bin emptied etc.
It's a 25 minute stroll into the old town, where all the decent restaurants/bars are.
This accommodation is fine if you book both rooms, if not, stay somewhere else!

Hi,
I just read your rewies in tripadvisior.
thank you so much for your beautiful word.
But I want to tell you:
1) when you are booked the room I don't have say you have a
private bathroom. If the private bathroom was so important
for you why you don't have tell me if it was shared or
private?
2) My B&B, like every B&B, is an appartament, NOT AN
HOTEL!!!
If you want the plasure of an hotel you MUST Stay in a Hotel
not in B&B!!
For the NOISE The B&B is 1 minute from the beach and 15
minute by foot from the old town and it is well served by
many restaurants ... This is very appreciated to the
turists...but problably not by you!!
The local market on Wednesday is a typical market and it is
very appreciated by every guests:NOT FOR YOU.
In Alghero turist went to spend a nice days, there are many
people in summer and my B&B is in a very strategic rue!!
If you don't want noise, other people, noise of car etc you
don't must stay in a B&B or in a Hotel in the city but
probably in a farmhouse very distance from the city.
The cleanings: why you have write that the B&B is not clean?
The bathroom and the livingroom was cleaned every day. I
don't clean your room because manny times you are in the
room when I go out and you have take breakfast only 2 days!!
The Keys: when you are arrived you are alone and I tell you
that I havent a key of the room because the others guest
have missed the Keys But whe on £ day are arrived the
others guest I have give you your private Keys. Isn't it?
The towels: In the regulation there is wrote that the change
is only 3 days, and I change it at the 4 days. In Italy, in
the B&B, the change , by regulation is 1 a week!
The breakfast: The breakfast is an Italian breakfast and
there are every things.
I have ask you if you want some else and you have say me NO.
So I buy you the fruit and I thinked it was gentle...
I write you some messages because you are every day in your
room and you for reponse write me: NO BREAKFAST !!!
When I see you I ask you if was ok and you have answerme:
yes, it's ok!!
I don't known, I don't understand you...
You are go out my appartant and you have not say me: Bye
Bye:
You are not gentle; because when you are in a guest in an
other place when you gou out you must say Bye.
Is the first time that a guest write this orrible words
about me...
I'm very unhappy..but I'm sure about me, and fourtunatly
many others guest appreciated me and my B&B.
But is one things that I don't understand: why you have you
write this orrible words and you have don't tell me
nothing???

Ottimo punto d'appoggio

No cereali, no miele...
per il resto tutto ok.
punto a favore: prezzo molto buono

Ci siamo trovati benissimo.
