A good hotel

My wife and I stayed at Kerala Cottage, Odayam Beach, near Varkala Beach for three nights. The cottage was spacious and comfortable with a balcony view of the sea. Clean and nice. The Internet was good.
Breakfast was included, with various options, including local specialities. Very delicious.
The mainly female staff were very friendly.
It is a quiet place, about a 300-meter walk to the beach. The sea was rough, with big waves and a strong current.
The hotel does not have a license to serve alcohol, so no beer in the evening. No coconut water as a welcome drink, upon arrival, although we were in coconut land. The hotel’s restaurant was under renovation, so we had lunch/dinner at other restaurants, about 500 meters away.
I can recommend this hotel; however, it is overpriced compared with other hotels in Kerala, where I have stayed.

We look forward to meeting Kerala Cottage again next winter.

We are clients of discerning nature, have been many times in all the countries of SWA, stayed in hotels 4-5* - there is something to compare. At Kerala Cottage we really enjoyed it. C5 Cottage is comfortable, with a large fridge, comfortable as 5*. Cleaning is great every day. The smells are nice. The air conditioning works. There's a fan. No safe. The room has two very comfortable chairs. On the veranda – a table and two other comfortable chairs, bamboo roller curtains are lowered – you can close from sight or the sun – very cozy. Just brighten the lamp - in the evening it is very dark on the veranda.
The area is small but very green. There are three sunbeds and plenty of comfortable hammocks. The room has beach towels.
Drinking water was provided to us without restriction.
Breakfast is excellent, everything on the menu could be ordered without limits: freshly squeezed juices, fruit, pancakes with bananas, eggs (fried, boiled, omelet), yogurt, cereal, porridge.
All the staff are very friendly, smiley, ready to help. The young people - Nevin and Anish - made our holiday as comfortable as possible. The women tried in the kitchen and kept the rooms clean. Just doing great!
The location is ideal – at the end of a quiet beach, along the shore goes both ways a footpath, which in 25-30 mins can reach Varkala beach (only a piece has to be walked on the sand). It is not so hot to walk even during the day - a breeze from the sea and part of the way in the shade passes. The supermarket is about 20 minutes walk away - we didn't feel the heat in the evening. There are vegetable-fruits, local chips, yogurt, water of various kinds, basic foods, even meat, on the second floor – promto products – toothpaste, creams, cleaning-detergents, etc.
About taxis: Uber is safe to order from the airport for February 2025 price of Rs. 1,300, but to the airport Uber is a problem (if you find a car, you can throw using the position of the customer), it is safer to take a taxi Rs. 2,000.
There are 2 cottages (C-5, C-6) and 4 bungalows in the complex, 2 of which (C-1, C-4) stand alone and 2 (C-2-C-3) are combined. The cottages are right next to the reception, in front of which – a parking area where cars occasionally park – is perhaps the only significant downside. I would like to advise owners not to allow parking so close to the cottages - it spoils the atmosphere of 5* and disrupts the connection with tropical nature. Bungalows are smaller in size, but they're worth more.
Another point that is not visible in the photo - between the complex and the sea runs a country road, on which transport periodically travels. Honestly, he wasn't much of a bother, and we got used to it quickly, but we have to keep that in mind. The sea is 150 meters away.
By the way, there are a lot of stray dogs on the beach - they seem peaceful, but they stole one of my slippers and chewed it up. And a pair of her husband's slippers left on the beach was stolen (not dogs).

An oasis near the lively Varkala Cliff

A pleasant oasis of tranquility near the lively Varkala Cliff. Clean, pretty rooms with a beautiful view of the sea. Super friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast couldn't have been better. Only the fact that there are no sun loungers or similar on the extensive area diminishes the whole thing somewhat.

Fabulous place to stay

We think this was the best place to stay in Varkala. Located almost on the beach with a lovely shady garden area. The beach was quiet but the location is only around 20 minutes walk to the north cliff with many restaurants and shops. We booked a deluxe villa which was spacious, very clean and had everything we needed. The staff were excellent, always willing to help with anything, to chat and everything with a smile. There was plenty of options for breakfast and you could have as much as you wanted, including fresh fruit and juices, omelettes, pancakes, toast etc

A glorious experience.

What a little gem. If you are looking for a little serenity and downtime from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day Indian life, then book for a stay at the Keralan Cottage immediately.
Located at the peaceful end of the Cliffs, you feel like you have a swathe of the beach to yourself.
The accommodation is excellent, the staff service is faultless (special shout out to Anish), the breakfast (choice and quantity) fantastic, the owner incredibly friendly. You are left feeling that there is nothing that they wouldn’t do for you in order to maximise your enjoyment of Varkala in general, and their accomodation in particular.
Next door restaurant also very good, albeit prices are a little more than in the Varkala itself which is either a 15-20 minute stroll along the beach or. 250 rupees ride away.
My only regret was that I couldn’t stay another night.
