A Little Jungle Paradise We Can’t Wait to Return To
If you’re looking for a truly special nature experience in Goa, Backwoods Camp is something I can’t recommend enough.
We stayed there as a family with two little kids, and it couldn’t have been more perfect for us. The room was comfortable and very convenient, and the balcony was honestly magical — it opened right into the jungle, where we could sit quietly and watch birds, giant squirrels, and even monkeys passing by. It felt like being inside a nature documentary.
The food was absolutely delightful, with plenty of variety and generous portions — we were always well taken care of. The staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind, which made the whole experience even more memorable.
A special highlight was Loven, the owner, who is incredibly knowledgeable about birdwatching. He guided us to the best spots and thanks to him we saw an amazing diversity of birds we would have never found on our own.
This is one of those rare places that stays with you long after you leave. I truly dream of coming back.

Fantastic experience!
We have just returned from a fantastic 3-day birdwatching trip at Backwoods Camp and are still buzzing from the many experiences we had. Lovein is a brilliant, passionate bird guide: he has unique knowledge, is dedicated and puts his heart and soul into his work. His enthusiasm is contagious. It's incredible how diverse the bird life is in this small region.
The trip to Backwoods Camp far exceeded our expectations and was a complete success: in addition to the diverse and fascinating bird watching, beautiful scenery, and excellent catering with delicious indian food, the staff were very friendly and efficient. It has left us wanting more, and we will be back next year. Thank you very much, Lovin and your team!

Amazing birding experience
My husband and I stayed at Backwards for the second time for 2 nights. We are keen bird photographers and Loven is excellent at finding the birds and explaining about them but he is also patient while we try to get our shot. Loven took us out birding 3 times a day and we saw lots of beautiful birds. The food is delicious and plentiful, it is indian food but not too spicy. The accommodation is basic but clean and the buckets of hot water are a nice touch at the end of the day's birding. It's a lovely quiet retreat in the woods and if you are interested in birds, you will love it. We will be returning in February for another couple of nights, can't wait.

Exceeded our expections
3 of us stayed here for 5 nights, predominantly for bird watching. It was easy to book rooms by contacting Loven (the owner) via WhatsApp and he was very friendly and flexible.
He arranged for us to be picked up from our previous hotel and brought to Backwoods Camp and he took us to Candalim at the end of our stay, stopping for some more birdwatching on the way.
Our stay far exceeded our expectations with the numerous species of birds we saw including elusive frogmouths and nightjars to owls, hornbills and malabar trojans.
Our stay included 3 guided trips out per day. Loven and his brother Reuben are friendly, excellent guides, both highly knowledgeable and made finding the birds appear easy! We were free to wander around the camp alone in our free time, if we wanted to.
The accommodation is basic but clean. Showers are cold but they will provide large buckets of hot water if wanted.
The monsoon season only ended a couple of days before we arrived. Being in a jungle-style environment meant it was humid while we were there, which made our clothes feel damp but this isn't a fault of Backwoods Camp, just to be aware of.
The food was plentiful. It was predominantly Indian, which we were more than happy to have, and it wasn't too spicy. For breakfast they'll cook eggs and toast if preferred.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Backwoods Camp to anyone with an interest in nature and it was the highlight of our 3 weeks in Goa. We can't wait to return.

Amazing birdwatching experience
Stayed at Backwoods for 3 days/2 nights for a birdwatching tour with Loven where I saw everything I wanted and more. Loven is an amazing guide who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the local wildlife and was great company as well. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and had AC. The food was some of the best I had in India and lots of it. Would recommend to anyone interested in wildlife and just looking for a quiet escape for a few days.
