Worst Hotel Experience in Amritsar – Poor Hygiene, Rude Staff & No Customer Support.

Extremely disappointing experience at Hotel Regal, Amritsar.
I booked a Family Suite through MakeMyTrip and had previously stayed at this hotel 4–5 times without any issues. Unfortunately, this visit was shocking and completely unacceptable.
The room was extremely dirty, covered in dust, and appeared as though it had not been opened or cleaned for months. The beds had visible stains, and the bathroom towels were stained with blood. When I attempted to document the issue, the staff quickly removed the towel before I could take a photo.
I immediately requested a room change, but despite repeated follow-ups, no proper solution was provided. Reception calls went unanswered, and after waiting for nearly 20 minutes, I was informed that no Family Suite was available. Instead, I was asked to accept a lower-category room without any refund or adjustment in price.
What disappointed me the most was the rude, arrogant, and unprofessional behavior of both the hotel staff and the owner. Instead of resolving the issue, I was told, “If you want to stay, stay. Otherwise, leave.” When I requested a refund so I could move to another hotel, the request was refused. Even after contacting MakeMyTrip, the hotel denied the refund request.
My wife and I were visiting Amritsar after completing a bike journey through Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Kashmir. The main purpose of our visit was to seek blessings at Sri Darbar Sahib and attend the Palki Sahib Darshan. Because of the hours wasted trying to resolve this issue, we missed the Darshan, making the experience even more heartbreaking.
The situation became so serious that I had to call Punjab Police (112). I sincerely thank the Punjab Police officers for their professionalism, patience, and support in handling the matter.
Hotels like this damage the reputation of Amritsar, a sacred city visited by millions of devotees and tourists every year. Travel platforms should thoroughly verify cleanliness standards, service quality, and management practices before promoting such properties as quality hotels.
I would strongly advise families, pilgrims, and tourists to be cautious before booking this property. Travelers are advised to inspect their room carefully before accepting check-in at this hotel.

Cleanliness issue

Very disappointing experience at Hotel Regal. The washrooms were smelly and unhygienic, making the stay extremely uncomfortable. The bed sheets were dirty, and there were hairs left on them from previous guests, which clearly showed that the sheets had not been changed. Even after informing the reception and requesting fresh bed sheets, no action was taken. Due to these issues, I had to check out on the same day as my check-in. It was a complete waste of money, and I would not recommend this hotel to others.

A quiet hotel near Golden Temple

A 1-minute walk from the Golden Temple, Hotel Regal enjoys a wonderfully quiet location. A good night's sleep is worth gold in India, and that's what you get here.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner also speaks good English and gives good tips. Highly recommended.
