Nice apartment in great location (Jewish Quarter)
Maybe I was influenced by the numerous lovely Christmas markets, the wide choice of restaurants and bars (including the ruin bars which are in the area surrounding the apartment), the low cost of living and the fact that most Hungarians had at the very least a smattering of English - the young a deal more, but I was really impressed by the improvement of Budapest as a tourist destination since my last visit 13 years ago.
It was really easy (and inexpensive, as is all public transport) to reach the apartment from the airport by bus from immediately outside the airport to its final stop Deak Ferenc Ter, or penultimate stop, Astoria. From these the large Jewish synagogue and museum, in Wesselenyi utca are about 10 mins walk or less, and this is also the street (utca) for the Onyx which is virtually opposite.
We were met by our host, a very nice, helpful lady, who had been most efficient in answering any texts we had sent between booking and arrival. The flat is in rather an old 2-story building, built courtyard-style, entered by a security gate, and there is a lift. The apartment itself is modern with 2 double bedrooms with comfortable beds and ample hanging space, TV etc, a lovely big bathroom with a good sized bath, and a kitchenette with cooking facilities (which we did not use), ample crockery etc, and a table with 4 chairs. Everything was extremely clean. The heating system was so efficient that, despite the weather outside, we turned most of the radiators off! We also appreciated the lack of noise - nothing from either the street or from other residents.
Thanks again to TA reviewers whose restaurant reviews helped us find some really nice restaurants from 'cheap eats' to somewhat more upmarket. A really good range can be found in the streets surrounding the apartment - bars too - which is good to have when it's cold and raining and feet are aching from having walked several miles already.
It was a shame, but unavoidable considering that the apartment was booked by other guests for the day we left, that we could not leave our luggage for later collection. Fortunately we both travel light so it was no big deal, but for some this could be a problem if they had heavy cases and, like us, they had a night flight.
We stayed 4 nights and this cost £126.35 which we thought very reasonable for nice accommodation in an ideal location. I would certainly recommend it.

Great place and amazing location
The owner Petra is super sweet and helpful! The flat is very clean, large, quiet and sunny! Bedrooms are large. Bathroom is great! Kitchen is very nice and well furnished. The building is older but very secure and you are across the street from the synagogue and blocks from the Basilica.

Lovely Stay and a wonderful location

- Location is great. Very close to the Great Synagogue
- Closest metro stop is Astoria
- Or you could walk to Deak Ferenc Ter
- Very close to Ruin Pubs. Szimpla is like 5 minutes away
- Godsdu Udvar is right behind
- Cake Rose cafe is good for no frills hungarian food
- The cafe round the corner has good Dobos Torte (Layered cake)
- Hummus bar below is pretty good too
- Apartment is clean
- Extremely well lit
- Owner is friendly and will answer your queries
- Wifi is good too. I could send pics through whats app.
- kettle in room
- Supermarket is very close (like 2 blocks)
Cons
- The wall clock in my apartment made a loud ticking noise. Very minor though. I could still get sleep.
I would definitely stay here again if I went back to Budapest. If you want to explore the ruin pubs and night life in Budapest, this is your best bet. Highly recommend it!
