Really lovely place to stay - great area and owner is so helpful and friendly. Sorted out taxi pickup from the airport and gave some recommendations for things to see in Georgetown. Room was comfy and really well setup, and breakfast was a perfect start to the day!

Not for everyone, but I enjoyed a short visit to Guyana

There are a couple of guest rooms. The room in the center appeared sufficient. I stayed at the room at the front of the property which is larger, has access to a deck, comfortable chairs and a table, and lots of natural lighting. The large shower had ample hot water and pressure, and there is a microwave and mini-refrigerator. The AC is ample, and a small fan and emergency lantern are nearby. There may be TV in the future.
To address mosquitoes, the manager, Gilbert, provided each night a coil which burned for several hours and there is also a mosquito zapper lamp next to the bed. As an extra precaution, I brought a mosquito net to sleep under. I only saw two or three mosquitoes inside the room daily. The general area has lots of standing water in channels and drains and ditches and puddles, however. Consult CDC and the State Department for the current situation regarding any risk of dengue, malaria, etc. which may change over time, even by season. Risks were fairly low during my visit.
I felt safe. Gilbert, the owner, lives on the property. There is a 24 hour taxi stand across the street which provides eyes on the street at all times. You pass three doors, two requiring keys, to enter the room.
I felt safe from crime while walking to Sheriff Street and several blocks up and down that busy area, but there are no sidewalks and cars drive in the shoulder and at fast speeds, so take care. There are also a large number of stray dogs rambling around, but none was ever aggressive.
The location of Carri’s had several advantages: (1) the 24 hour taxi stand across the street, both convenient, fairly priced, and providing a layer of security (2) an acceptable restaurant and sports bar “OMG” on the corner. (3) a grocery store which accepts credit cards, “Survival,” just a couple of blocks to the right on Sheriff Street (4) a classy coffee shop with pastries and sandwiches “Blue Bel” one block to the left on Sheriff Street (5) a high quality Indian restaurant , Aagman, a few blocks to the left. Again, there are no sidewalks for pedestrian safety. None of these restaurants are really cheap, but all are air-conditioned. Blue Bel and OMG usually accept credit cards.
There is not much to see or do in Georgetown. The National Museum was last updated in the 1950s and the zoo is sad. The US Embassy advises against being out at night or going to the local markets for security concerns. Giftland Mall was a pleasant diversion, and had great variety in the food court, but is not really a tourist attraction. Much of the downtown colonial architecture can only be viewed from the outside, including St. George’s Church, which did not appear to be open, even for Sunday services.
The airport is only 25 miles from town, but the road is poor and congested, even after midnight. For airport transfers ($50) I can recommend Nash Taxi at 592-681-8101, clean, comfortable, and reliable.

The host was very nice. He arranged a taxi from the airport and I arrived close to 0200. He greeted me, which I appreciated.
The room was a nice size and the AC worked well. I did experience mosquitos and loud music at night, which affected my sleep, though I understand these are not things the host can control.
The toilet could have used more attention in terms of cleaning.
In the morning, the host brought coffee and breakfast snacks to the room on a tray, which was a thoughtful and appreciated touch.
