Absolutely amazing place to stay! Yannis and Tina, are incredible. Nothing is too much trouble! Highly recommended. The only place I have continued to go back! My happy place! Thank you Yannis and Tina for everything! I also can’t forget the amazing staff, especially maki’s! Love you all ❤️

We had a fantastic stay! The hotel is in a perfect location directly opposite the beach, and our newly renovated room was modern, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The whole hotel has such a lovely, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and being family-run gives it a really personal feel.
The staff were absolutely fantastic and incredibly friendly. A special mention to Yanis, who welcomed us by our names and continued to greet us personally whenever he saw us — such a lovely touch that made us feel genuinely valued. He also went above and beyond to help my partner obtain a gift, which was incredibly kind.
The bar and service were excellent, and we really appreciated the complimentary water provided on the beach sun loungers — a simple but thoughtful touch. Everything was clean, well looked after and great value for money.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel. Fantastic location, wonderful staff and a genuinely warm and welcoming atmosphere. We would definitely return!

Wonderful first time in Skala
We just got back from a wonderful 10 days staying at Tara Beach Hotel for the first time. The family run hotel is lovely, very well maintained, and the surrounding gardens are beautiful. The pool is a great size with plenty of sunbeds and a lovely bar area that serves drinks a good selection of food, from salads, to pasta dishes, baguettes and omlettes, all washed down with an ice cold beer, or drink of your choice. The beach is across the road and the town is a short walk up a slight incline. There's a taxi station and bus stop approx 200 yards away and supermarket 5 mins walk away. The staff are all welcoming and very helpful and Yiannis is fantastic. He remembers everyone's name and nothing is too much trouble. It's clear he takes great pride in the business and his staff. Thank you all for a wonderful holiday and a memorable first time in Skala. We'll definitely be back. Best wishes from Liz, Danny, Pat and Dave :)

Exceeded expectations!
A long story but the hotel we had booked rang 1 week before our holiday to say they had double booked so we couldn't stay. As we had been visiting Skala for over 20 years we knew the area well and had stayed at many hotels apartments and villas but never the Tara Beach and we now dont know why. We booked in for 2 weeks. We're greeted by the owners. We've put you in one of our remaining rooms that is awaiting refurbishment but if you are not happy we can give you a refurbed room from tomorrow. Well we were perfectly happy with the room on the front of the hotel with a front balcony looking out to the sea and a side balcony looking over the beautiful pool and sun bed area. The bed was clean, and very comfy with 2 large soft pillows each bedding was changed every couple of days. There was a wardrobe with ample hangers, a dressing table, fridge and tv. Yes the furniture is showing signs of wear but we werent going to sit in the room looking at it all day. The bathroom also needs a refurb and upgrade but there was always hot water, clean, no drainy smells which you can often get in Greek Hotels and the wash basin big enough to wash swimwear in. Towels were clean and changed frequently. One of the housekeeping staff even did towel art with our new towels on a couple of occasions - thank you. Air-conditioning unit was excellent and quiet so you can sleep through the night with it on. Breakfast is continental but cooked items available to order at a very reasonable cost. Yogurt and honey, toast and jam, cheese and ham, hard boiled eggs. Even 2 toastie makers so you could make your own if you wished. Plenty of juice, water, tea and coffee. I would have liked feta cheese and tomatoes to go with the very yummy black olives. The hotel exceeded our exceptions, to be greeted by name from day one such a friendly touch. We will definitely return just to see your refurbed rooms can improve on our 5/5 rating.

Wonderful Place - Full description and costs included here
This is not a short review. However it will give you all the information that You might need if you are on a budget. I must begin by saying the family that run this place are wonderful, as are all the staff. We had one of the newly refurbished rooms and I'll describe the facilities in a moment.
COSTS
Air con was 9 Euros/day, the safe (situated in the bathroom of our room) was 25 Euros for the week and the room tax (correctly called the Climate Resilience Fee) was 5 Euros a day which was 35. People whinge about the cost of air con and say it should be included, I've been coming to Greece for 40 years (initially, hardly any accom had air con !) and unless it is on an obscure island OR a 5 star hotel then air con is ALWAYS extra.
FACILITIES IN THE ROOM
Our room was right at the top (44 steps) but we were glad of the exercise even though I've had joints replaced and my sister almost lost her leg in a motor bike accident. With arthritis you MUST keep moving. I was blown away by the bathroom, - lovely waterfall fitting and a hand held shower head too and spacious glass cubicle. The shower was powerful and always hot water. My only whinge is that there was nowhere to put soap/gel/shampoo so if you are older/not supple (in my case due to arthritis) then it's tricky bending down - however the surface was not slippery. Another reviewer complained about lack of ventilation - we had a small window so no issues for us. The hairdryer in the bathroom is the strongest I've ever used in house. it was 1800 to 2000w and dried my hair without issue. The room had a TV which we never used. There is lighting over the wardrobe area, within the bench shelves, over the mirror, and the bathroom mirror too as well as bedside lights. The beds were very comfy and had two pillows each.
The wardrobe was an open affair and there were (I think) 14 decent coat-hangers in situ. Exactly like you get in UK hotels which slot into a fixed metal ring and they also have two pinchy clips to hold trousers or skirts. The storage space is open shelves so I suggest using those packing cubes to contain underwear/swimwear etc.
ELECTRIC SOCKETS - there were two sockets at each side of the bed. one extra next to the kettle, one near the French windows and one near the door where I plugged in the mozzie killer. We had a mini fridge and I took a small ice cube tray and that worked. The air con unit was brand new and worked well. There was a kettle on a integral tray with two proper mugs and a teaspoon and two proper glasses (smallish tumblers).
For those who have not been to Greece before, the loo plumbing is not designed to deal with anything other than human waste, the bore size of the sewage pipes is not big enough for anything else so it is absolutely essential and normal to place loo paper/wipes in the bin.
FOOD
We never made it to breakfast. However the food we ordered (and we ate at the pool bar every day) was of a very good standard and always served with an efficient cheery smile. Costas especially was wonderful ! Tina, as everyone says, works terribly hard and does 16 things at once successfully ! To save carrying weight from the mini markets, you can buy bottles of water for the kettle from the bar - obviously they're more expensive but to me, worth it to save carrying (unless you've hired a car).
THE POOL
The sunbeds are new - a bit low for me but I managed - I could see there was a pile of the older ones in a discreet corner - probably needed as the season continues and I have to say some guests were towel hogging nightmare pixies towards the end of our stay. I understand if people put towels on and then go and eat but when they disappear for 4 or 5 hours .... to me this is hideously selfish. People were rising very early to place their towels on beds, such that when we came out at 8.15 only 6 were left empty ....... I detest this. We did not go on the beach but I understand the beach beds are 12E for the pair. Round the pool, the brollies are the very best - so easy to put up !
CATS
We love cats. If you don't then look for a different hotel. There are approx 5 resident cats, almost all neutered (they clip the ear) and they are in good health and are well socialised. Cats now appear to be neutered and well fed - I have noticed this in Crete, the Cyclades, the Sporades and Kos and Rhodes too, as well as Skala this last 5 years.
WIFI
Oh dear. Even in the Bar area or even reception it was absolutely appalling and this really is my ONLY complaint. Google says - High Device-to-Bandwidth Ratio: (in other words, we all bring phones, tablets etc etc) Sadly it's outdated ADSL/VDSL copper cables and very little fibre-optic, especially on the islands. To be clear, this is the fault of the infrastructure not the hotel. I also got sick of other people (in an open area) being on the phone to home on speaker - do we really want to know your business ? - I think not. Especially the woman getting divorced .....
BALCONY
Or balcony was pleasant and big enough for two people. I was rather surprised that there was no clothes airer or even a washing line but this was of no consequence to me because I always take a small line and pegs since we always have swimwear, beach towels and room towels that we hang outside. Obviously the air con extractor fan was out there too which someone grumbled about but why would one have the aircon going if one was sitting outside ??
And so, to conclude - the people who run and work in this hotel are the best kind of people. They are kind and helpful and they work very hard. It is normal in a small family hotel business, for refurbishment to be done in stages over 3 or 4 years - when I next visit if I get one of the old rooms I'll still be glad to be there. And we will definitely return. . PS my perception is that the refurb is 80% complete but this is only my guestimate. Thank you Tara Beach for a truly wonderful holiday.
