Great location, shame about the noise...
I had booked another hotel for my three nights stay in Skala, but a difference of opinion as who was to blame for a booking error, led me to walk out of said hotel on a Sunday night at 19:15, with absolutely no where to go bar the beach.
Sometimes, we really do the most illogical things, simply because it feels wholly right at the time.
Booking.com were very helpful here, and confirmed a full refund to my account almost immediately.
They also offered alternatives locally, one of which was Hotel Skala.
Given the reviews on here, and it's very close proximity to where I had plonked myself, luggage and all, I felt it was a reasonable choice, but prehaps not an overly economic one, understandable prehaps given this really was, a very last minute booking...
I arrived 8 minutes after the booking had been confirmed and paid for, to a rather confused Stelios who was manning reception.
In reality, I had few options here.
I was on holiday for but 6 nights, and having been awake for 30 plus hours as the flights had only been booked less than 24 hours prior to arriving, I was properly kernackered. I needed a place to lay my head, and Hotel Skala looked like a good option.
(I have already produced an authoritative account of what took place at said previous hotel, which is available to view now, if interested.)
However, to the point of this review, which is all about Stelios, Helen & Tam.
Good points:
Great location next to the main walkway, with easy access to all that Skala has to offer.
Everything was very clean and tidy. The bathroom was purposeful, and whilst the room was hardly capacious, it was sufficient for a couple of nights.
Breakfast was good, and service appeared willing and prompt. Buffet choice was a little limited, but there was a cooked option available, which though not huge, was just enough for starting the day.
I just loved the towel antics (shapes/animals) provided by Tam. A small point prehaps, but appreciated all the same.
Not, so good...
No Pool (original hotel had a pool, so I kinda noticed this).
Air conditioner leaked onto my shirt, which was a pain. This was fixed the following day.
Cut my finger on the door handle to my room (HOW is that even possible?). But, when reported, this was also addressed the following day. I have to say, it was never properly acknowledged by Stelios that there was an issue. It just disappeared, strangely after maintenance appeared...Lol! All good!
However, the real issue for me was simply one of noise.
My room, no' 23 was directly opposite a car rental place and restaurant.
You may well fare better in a different room than I was offered, but had it been for more than a couple of nights, then given the charges attached, I would probably have moved on.
It was, what it was, but beware dear reader if you're a light sleeper, because dependent upon your room it may well be an issue for you. I understand, from occasional acquaintances, that copious amounts of grain and or, grape, can often negate such traffic noise, and general hollering from the locals when on holiday. Allegedly.
Overall. Great location. Nice people. A clean room. Beautiful surroundings, it's therefore difficult not to recommend.
Thank you to all at Hotel Skala who were kind enough to smile so readily at me, when I smiled at them. It was indeed, appreciated.
As always, happy and safe travelling.
Phil

Very disappointing for £136 pn, deluxe room
Our 16sqm room was tiny, with virtually no space around the bed. The bathroom had a tiny mirror, no shelves or storage, and disappointingly not even soap or a dispenser. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable either.
Breakfast was very limited. There was a continental selection, but the quality wasn't great and some of the bread seemed stale. Eggs were available fried or scrambled, but when I asked for poached or boiled, the answer was simply “no”.
The biggest issue was the lack of soundproofing. We could hear everything, including knives and forks clattering in the breakfast area from our room.
There’s no bar or real communal atmosphere, and reception closes at 7pm, after which you enter using a key code.
The location is excellent and the family-run aspect is lovely, but for the price we expected considerably more comfort, facilities and attention to detail. Sadly, we wouldn't stay again at £136 a night.

Terrible experience; we strongly advise against this property.
We had booked this property with great enthusiasm, but following a serious and documented family emergency, we asked, well in advance, for a gesture of understanding, requesting free cancellation or at least a partial refund.
Although the situation was clearly exceptional and documented, the property chose to strictly apply the booking conditions, without showing any willingness or sensitivity toward the customer. The only proposal received was a voucher, which did not represent an adequate solution to our needs.
We understand the existence of cancellation policies, but we believe that professionalism and customer care are measured above all in the management of extraordinary situations. In this case, we encountered a total lack of empathy and willingness to find a reasonable compromise.
For this reason, we do not feel we can recommend this property. When choosing a hotel, you don't just evaluate the room or the location, but also the way customers are treated in times of difficulty. Unfortunately, our experience in this regard was deeply negative.

Ghost hotel
Due to a very serious and documented family emergency, we were forced to cancel our trip. We contacted the property immediately, providing all the necessary explanations and documentation, hoping for at least a minimum of understanding.
The response was a total refusal, with no willingness to evaluate the situation or find a solution, not even a partial one. We understand the importance of cancellation policies, but common sense also exists and, above all, respect for those who find themselves facing exceptional and unforeseeable events.
We cannot judge the quality of the accommodation because we did not have the opportunity to stay there. However, we can judge the way we were treated: with a rigidity and lack of empathy that left us deeply bitter.
I invite those booking this property to keep in mind that, should they find themselves in a serious and unforeseeable situation, they might not receive any understanding or assistance. Personally, I would never book again and I do not feel I can recommend it.

Disappointing room sub standard with very poor bathroom facilities, not deluxe as described!
There was little space around the bed and a small, cramped shelf for making drinks. Outside the balcony side & back were big, we joked possibly larger than the room! Requested a room change but were told none available except another one with a small sink and NO shelf at all in bathroom!
Breakfast was ok but limited choice. I learnt to ask Alexandra who was very helpful, for more fruit as it was presented on the buffet, sliced and placed on a dinner plate! ( not in the copious amounts shown on their website). Rooms were clean and bed was comfy. Maid did a great job. Location of hotel is close to the beach and amenities. To sum up, we paid for a deluxe room with a garden view and got a room that was anything but that. We feel we were mis sold. Official Photos mostly show the nicer, larger rooms. Buyer beware! There is no lift either if you need one.
