Nice room and nice view.

Very well located above the harbor, a stone's throw from restaurants and the beach. Pleasant (saltwater) pool with a superb view of the sea (and the sunset), but lounge chairs in the shade are rare... We chose one of the renovated "Isle Essence top floor" rooms, very pretty indeed. Ours, however, had a very small balcony. The breakfast buffet is very complete. The welcome and the service: discreet and friendly.

Worth a Look

We stayed in this hotel for three nights in mid-May. The hotel is situated on the hill above the Port. We believe it has 18 rooms and is set on several levels in the hillside. We reached the hotel by taxi from Katapola (which the hotel can arrange at a discount) but there are ferry services into the port at Aegiali. The walk from the port is uphill but would take no more than 10 minutes with luggage. We are uncertain how the hotel addresses guests with mobility problems but during our stay one guest on crutches managed very well. Guests in wheelchairs would have some difficulties on the island if not in the hotel. The hotel sits within a built up environment and there are no gardens but the access areas are softened with local planting.
The reception area is a large airy room immediately accessed a few steps from the main road. There is some soft seating in the reception area but it does not, by design, encourage lounging. The reception room lets on to a pool area which is terraced and with sufficient sun beds, tables and chairs. There is a small bar. Beyond the pool on one of the lower levels is the breakfast room.
Our room was on the top floor and called “Isle Essence Sea View”. We had a soft seating area with a desk and chair – adequate for casual working, along the length of both the bedroom and the seating area was a plinth that could be used as a shelf or to sit upon. There was a full width and fairly deep balcony, accessed from the seating area, with table and chairs but there was no shade. The bedroom was open to the entire room and really only had a bed. At the other end of the room there was a refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities and sufficient space for clothes on a hanging rail with a couple of drawers. There was a small safe. There was a walk in shower and the hand-basin was separate from the shower room. There was also a separate WC. Bed linen and towels were good quality. Aircon was efficient and wifi was good. Everything was well kept, clean and comfortable – our only anxiety arose from a concrete bed base which became a step down into the room and needed to be remembered at all times!
Housekeeping was OK.
We only took breakfast at the hotel and we do not believe it serves other meals – although in high season the bar may do snacks. Breakfast was a combination of a la carte and a buffet – food was good. The staff in the restaurant all spoke good English. The room, however, is not endearing. It was clean and functional but did not encourage any loitering.
The whole of the seafront road can be walked in 20 minutes. This road and those side streets running from it contain enumerable restaurants, bars, tourist shops, bakeries, supermarkets etc. Beyond the end of the seafront and lining the beach are more restaurants.
During our stay we encountered no groups of visitors in the hotel. Staff were always friendly and professional and multi-tasked!
Nearly everything about this hotel was pleasant, however some of the steps and the use of concrete could be off-putting. It is expensive, even for an island that is somewhat remote, and to us it was on the cusp of not representing value for money. But, for a good location, comfortable rooms and a pool, this is worth considering.

A wonderful visit.

We really enjoyed Yperia. Owner/manager Antonis and his staff are very welcoming and helpful. [In fact Antonis called the local doctor and arranged a visit with the local doctor when my wife needed stitches for a cut on her leg.] He also had great recommendations for local restaurants, all of which were superb. Our room was large and comfortable, with a true queen size bed instead of two twin beds pushed together, as you often see in Europe. The view was magnificent. The location was good too; just up the hill (a very short walk) to the village and waterfront.

Amazing hotel in a cute remote city - Peaceful end-season stay!

We stayed at Yperia hotel at the very end of the summer season (October 25). It was very quiet, peaceful, exactly what we wanted. The view from our Sea-view double room was absolutely stunning, opening straight onto the see with amazing sunset (see pictures). The room is decorated in a very simple traditional way, with few dark-wood traditional furniture (wardrobe, sofa, table etc). Air Conditioned is available and a mosquito repellent is provided free of charge (not that we saw a single one). The TV is here more as a decoration (very small screen), but you should not come there for that; enjoy the view, not the screen! The only little drawback we found was the bathroom (WC, sink and shower) which was rather small (e.g. you have to sit sideways on the toilet not to bump into the shower slides).
As we were the very last one in the hotel for the season, the breakfast buffet was rather slim, BUT you just ask the kitchen personnel and they will very kindly prepare whatever you wish. Very nice, kind and helpful people in this hotel!
The surroundings are absolutely lovely, the small city center has everything you want (many excellent restaurants, two supermarkets, one bakery and even one pharmacy!). It is a very cute and traditional cyclade city that managed to avoid the destruction brought by mass tourism. We found our-self very at ease and at peace strolling through the narrow streets.
Overall we can only warmly recommend the Yperia and thanks the amazing staff for making our stay even better.
(Note that a bus transfer from Katapola to the hotel can be arranged upon request).

A beautiful experience at Yperia

We stayed at Yperia for three nights in early October right at the end of the season. It has 18 rooms of which 4 were occupied. A superb location and a very comfortable hotel. Great eating places 5 minutes down the small hill. Antonis, our host, could not have been more helpful from running us to and from the ferry to mixing us cocktails by the pool to watch the idyllic sunset over the bay.
