Will definitely be back

The hotel is very welcoming and flexible. We were nicely received and the hotel is nice, beautiful and the rooms excellent. The restaurant is very good nice eaten with homemade pasta and good wines. Recommended

Good.

Well located hotel
Medium attendance since there was difficulty in orienting over the parking lot by the receptionist even though there was the possibility in the hotel.
The room is big.
Medium price.
Valid for the ease of travel to tourist attractions

Excellently hosted and dined

The Italian restaurant Vittorio in the hotel warmly welcomed our group of 8 people without a reservation and served everyone magnificently on his terrace with food and drinks à la carte. Always happy to come back!

I would deduct the fourth star...

I was here for the second time after 45 years (based on my best experiences) and gifted the weekend to my wife. Unfortunately, I or we were disappointed this time, as our room on the 1st floor was overwhelmingly filled with kitchen odors. The second room across the hall on the same floor, facing the pedestrian zone, was located diagonally above the cellar bar de Kelder, which is known for its loud music on weekends, as confirmed by the reception the next day. Starting at 10:00 PM, there was a hellish noise that lasted for hours with enormous bass amplifiers deep into the night, resulting in recurring thumping rhythms that robbed us of sleep even with the windows closed. As a result, we had to move again the next day to the back side of the second building towards the park, where crows have their nests in the trees around the former city wall and also make quite a racket (a well-known problem in Xanten, where the ravens nest in many areas of the green belt; the city wanted to drive them away from Klever Street, but the district of Wesel does not allow it). Our complaint, specifically about the loud music, was to be followed up, and they intended to speak with the bar's management; numerous guests at the breakfast table were also discussing this issue, as we heard, but I do not know if any complaints arose from it. Furthermore, the hotel did not have decaffeinated coffee at any time during that weekend, and there was only one type of tea that was caffeine-free.
There can be no talk of a vital breakfast here, especially as several fruit components and berries were missing, which were only available in small quantities, and plant-based alternatives like butter or oat milk or smoothies were completely absent. Various components of the "normal breakfast" had to be replenished on request repeatedly, which reinforced the impression of stinginess; the staff in this area was clearly overwhelmed, in our opinion. Additionally, there were multiple false alarms in the breakfast area on Sunday morning (10.05.26) that were only turned off after a long time; we did not see a fire officer, nor was there a request to leave the breakfast room and go outside - escape routes were available at all times through the adjacent windows to the park path. Otherwise, it is a beautiful old town building, nicely winding and nicely furnished with two elevators, which have also aged a bit, like some other interiors, but definitely recommended for nostalgia lovers, especially since other famous personalities have stayed here, making it historically significant.
The proximity to the marketplace and cathedral is present; severely disabled individuals or wheelchair users (not always level-access bathrooms) should definitely reserve the hotel's parking lot. After three days of parking in one of the city wall parking spaces (three hours free with a parking disc), the car looks quite shabby and is speckled with droppings from pigeons and crows. Again and again!

Fantastic hotel that delights amazing history and immaculate conditions. Brilliantly run. Dinner in the restaurant and breakfast were both excellent. Great value for money. There are very few independent hotels that reach this standard. It was that good.
