Seeresidenz Alte Post

A hidden gem in Munich Area. I stayed at this hotel on a business trip in nearby Penzberg and it was an outstanding. Being a busy traveler the initial impatience of late evening check in being slow due to lack of staff soon went away. This is a place that should be ranked high in destinations as part of The Slow Revolution - find places which will encourage you to slow down, take in your nature surroundings and re-charge. I will defn come back !!

All-round great place

We booked this hotel by a bit of an accident - forgetting the free cancellation deadline on booking.com. What a good thing it turned out to be. Seeshaupt is at the bottom of lake Starnberg and is a small village with just a few shops and restaurants. Nothing like Starnberg which is overly commercialised in my opinion. The hotel and all the staff are a credit to the German tourist industry. Everything was, as you would expect, of the highest quality. Excellent reception, clean and spacious rooms, fantastic breakfast service, delightful pool, etc. etc.
A special thanks to Karin on reception who always welcomed us with a smile and such enthusiasm and for her advice on local walks and our breakfast waiters and evening bar staff for looking after us so well. The restaurant in the evenings was a little quiet so we chose to eat out.
The hotel is in a perfect spot for touring. Castles, lakes, mountains - you can get to them all from here very easily. With a good sat nav you can avoid the major roads and its as if you are the only people visiting. We spent a full day going anti-clockwise around lake Starnberg - on reflection we should have gone round clockwise to benefit from the sun a little more. The memorial to King Ludwig is in a lovely spot and well worth the longish walk through the woods. The village there is also very nice.
We visited Neuschwannstein, Zugspitze, Oberamergau and the Wieskirche on other days. Garmisch is also so easy to get to. A big thanks to Germany ......and again to Karin and the breakfast boys.

Amazing location

We paid for a room with a lake view which was fabulous. The view was amazing and we could sit on the balcony. There was a small kitchen area and a big bathroom and the bed was really comfortable.
The staff speak excellent English and are happy to help. The service is faultless.
Our only criticism was the lack of atmosphere in the restaurant. We didn't eat there at all as there are other more lively places to eat locally. It felt a bit sterile and was painfully quiet.
It was slightly overpriced but I guess you're paying for the location.

Friendly and clean

Needed to stay in the area for business. I would stay here again as I liked the hotel overall. My room was very clean and spacious; other colleagues had a nice view of the lake. Pool was very nice (be aware that in the mornings, senior/elderly classes take place so it may be closed). Ate breakfast and dinner which were both delicious. The hotel was very calm and quiet, with blooming orchids placed all around. I was lucky with the April weather so explored the lakes around the area. I rented a car to get around.

Very Friendly in Beautiful Spot

Stayed here out of season. The hotel is in a good spot at one end of the small quiet street. Located very close to the village's only supermarket which is well stocked and well priced. Banks with ATM, restaurants (x2), coffee shop all within short walk on the same street.
There is an underground car park and the large building across from the hotel entrance looks like its also part of the hotel but is a retirement complex and the elderly residents pop over for breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Very warm welcome, check in very straight forward. Room was a good size with modern facilities. Shower, no bath. Entrance hall had wardrobes and mirror. Our room overlooked the car park which was a shame as we would have loved a lake view.
Breakfast was very good, wide choice of cold offerings; fruit, yogurt, cereals, breads and pastries. We had a pot of Earl Grey tea and eggs were offered in a variety of ways except poached which our waiter didn't understand as it was lost in translation but the scrambled was lovely. Our table each morning had views out to the lake - tranquil. No rushing and friendly waiters.
We forgot our plug adaptor and reception were very helpful as we borrowed one for our duration.
There is free wifi.
We would stay again.
