Stay in a Luxury Prison
We’ve had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Liberty Offenburg twice now (seven years apart) and somehow, it was even better the second time.
What makes this place truly special is its history. The hotel is set within a beautifully restored 19th-century prison, originally built in the 1840s and used until 2009, before being transformed into a luxury boutique hotel. The owners have done an incredible job preserving the character of the original building; thick stone walls, former cell layouts, and architectural details, while seamlessly blending in modern comfort and style. The result is something genuinely unique.
The rooms are absolutely spectacular spacious, thoughtfully designed, and full of character. You can feel the history without sacrificing any comfort. It’s one of those rare places where the setting itself becomes part of the experience.
The service is equally impressive. Every member of staff we’ve encountered has been warm, professional, and incredibly accommodating and importantly for international travellers, English is widely spoken, which makes everything effortless.
And the food deserves a special mention. The breakfast in particular is outstanding, fresh, varied, and genuinely something to look forward to each morning.
Without hesitation, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. If you’re anywhere near Offenburg (or even if you’re not) it’s absolutely worth going out of your way to experience it.

An extraordinary hotel experience – absolutely recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This hotel is truly something very special! A former prison that was transformed into a modern, stylish, and unique hotel with an incredible amount of attention to detail. The combination of historical charm and modern design is simply fantastic.
Our room was beautiful, modern, and extremely comfortable. You notice immediately that a great deal of value was placed on quality, atmosphere, and loving details in the design. A stay here is definitely more than just an overnight stay – it is a very special experience.
We would especially like to thank the exceptionally friendly and warm staff. A big thank you to Aaliaya, Queenie, and Justin! Your attentiveness, warmth, and professionalism made our stay something very special. Admission to the outdoor pool for three hours is also included in the hotel price. This pool was also very well-maintained.
Thanks to the entire team, my partner's birthday was enhanced in a wonderful way and became an experience that we will remember for a long time and very fondly. We felt welcome and in the best of hands from the very beginning. This hotel combines history, modern design, comfort, and outstanding service in a unique way.

It was a short stay of unfortunately only 2 nights. We could have easily enjoyed it here for a bit longer.
We were thrilled by the great, stylish prison conversion. Staff very friendly, food super, location central, breakfast top, free bike rental, nice little town, outdoor pool easily reachable on foot, nice weekly market...simply satisfactory! Thanks for that!

Great hotel.
We are returning to this hotel for the fourth time. Very friendly staff. We always travel with a dog. The dog is also welcome in the restaurant. Prime location in the park.

Incredible hotel with a very cool vibe and in excellent condition. The buffet breakfast was good value and the evening dinner in the onsite restaurant was great quality
with the only downside being the very slow service, taking three hours to serve a four-course taster menu.
