Don’t stay anywhere else this is the place to be

This is the second time we stay at Rosewood Munich. Every time we get pleasantly surprised with how nice the hotel and the rooms are. Whatever we asked for the hotel staff was able to easily accommodate and arrange for us. We even extended our stay and changed our tickets as we were enjoying the premise’s so much.
Two things happened during our stay that I feel the need to report
1. One morning we were booked to take the kids to Legoland and the hotel has arranged a taxi for us, however after our breakfast we could not access our room and had to wait for a long time until they finally fixed the key issue. I had to go 2 times to the reception (the hotel is quite big and there was a lot of walking with the Mrs and the kids waiting/standing in front of the room) and at the end after about 25 minutes the issue was resolved and we managed to get in the room.
2. One day we came quite late from outside and we decided to stay at the hotel and have dinner, we went down to the restaurant and the hostess was quite aggressive in her approach, i understand they were under pressure maybe but still there is a way to handle clients and hotel guests. This was definitely not one of them. She was short/rude we didn’t react and finally we were taken to our table and service was excellent in the usual manner for Rosewood Munich. I think the lady recognized she was out of line and was trying to act cool but we really didn’t appreciate the first encounter with her.
Overall the hotel is amazing/the location is fantastic/ the service is incredible and the price range compared to other European cities is quite good.
Would highly recommend staying there if you value luxury.

It’s a winner

We had a wonderful stay. Fantastic location. Very clean. I love the sauna and the pool area. Special thanks to the two nice gentlemen concierges who helped us with our bags today. They were the epitome of European hospitality and charm. (I’m sorry I didn’t get their names but it was 8/11/2026 at 10am).

Fantastic bar

The Bar Montez at the Rosewood is a must. Great cocktails, fine, small dishes and currently an "apprentice" named Cord, who would be welcomed with open arms in any luxury hotel in the world: Excellent manners, outstanding cocktails - even those that are not on the menu and that you still wish to drink. What an evening!

Expected Much, Left Disappointed

We are saddened to write this review and we are compelled to do so to ensure that no one has the same experience with the Rosewood Munich. If you have already had such an experience, we are so sorry, and we hope knowing you are not alone validates your experience! We rarely write negative reviews because we’re easily pleased, but we are writing this because the lack of customer service was so disheartening, particularly because this was the first time our two teenagers have visited Munich. They often enjoy 5-star hotels and had picked this one with excitement that gradually shriveled and eventually died as events unfolded on the day we checked in to the hotel after a 9-hour flight. This was the first time we wanted to leave the same night because of all the inappropriate responses, room problems and then the lack of cool air in the room that was disowned by this same facility even after they examined and noted it was not working as it should. But let us start at the beginning:
We were very excited about staying at the Rosewood; we had believed found and believed lots of positive reviews on most blogs (we should have listened to the negative reviews because our experience was as close to a nightmare as we have ever had at a hotel that claims to be a 5-star hotel. We have never had such experience at any other 5-star hotel).
Possibly the worst part was when we tried to get the complimentary room upgrade. When we went to American Express travel to originally plan our stay in Munich, they told us that using the AmEx card would still get us the complimentary room upgrade even if we booked through Rosewood instead of American Express. We had accordingly booked directly through Rosewood and were assured of a terrace, complimentary upgrade, and extra robes and slippers. When we checked in, they accommodated for the upgrade with another family but told us that since we didn’t book through American Express travel, the complimentary upgrade didn’t apply. They also claimed that the terrace requirement was not noted. We called Rosewood booking and they confirmed that the terrace requirement WAS noted. We then called American Express, and they said that Rosewood would usually give the complimentary upgrade even if we didn’t book through American Express. They advised us to cancel our reservation and rebook the same room through American Express so that the complimentary upgrade was guaranteed and apologized for the unpleasantness from Rosewood.
Rosewood booking told us this was okay but told us we also had to call the front desk at the Rosewood Munich. When we did so and while attempting to explain, the staff member told us “You have to pay; it’s not for free and you have to pay for the night” out of nowhere and without basis, even after we clearly explained the process. She acted as if we were trying to avoid paying rather than fixing the mess they made! That was the core reason we decided to cancel and leave; it was bad enough that we had to spend a whole day after a long time trying to fix the different issues the room had that she was refusing to address the internet that did not recognize we were checked into the room we were in. She argued about until she found out that they supposedly have “connectivity issues” (which I did not believe at all) after she gave me access to their private WiFi…I am savvy with IT things and that was just inappropriate.
Then she switched to telling me that we would have to pay for a second day after I stated that when I call to rebook, I would rebook Rosewood or somewhere else if they were not available (since I know hotels do not have rooms at times). But when she then started to threaten us that we will have to a pay 90% for day 2 despite them having enough time if we do not rebook the Rosewood after canceling (for purposes of rebooking through AMEX to ensure we get all our card benefit) which was a threat! We realized we needed to leave this hotel given all the negative passive aggressive assumptions and communication, lack of care and WiFi issues to and subsequently the broke A/C that meant we stayed all night in a room that was not air conditioned and that gave us an air humidifier and called it a DysonFan. Of course, she then started to cite a policy that could not be found on their website as stating that we are required to pay, but they would waive the cost if we rebook them……again threat!! The actual policy on the website said that any cancellation ahead of time needs to be done 24 hours before to avoid charges. And afterwards they would charge for one night. Yet they argued from this is how all hotels do it to, I will call you back after they could not show any policy that had the language, all because we refused to be threatened into staying.
It was so hot in that room and the solution so inadequate that one person’s medical condition flared and we were all angry because the conversation became more about the money. when we opted to end our stay as more and more issues came to light with the room, all because they decided to side with the one staff who started with a biased, callous and negatively presumption when we attempted to problem solve to rectify their failures. It was unbelievable that not one word of an apology or even “I am so sorry this is happening” never came out of the mouth of the staff, but the Rosewood Global reservation did empathize, Amex empathized which just highlighted how bad the Rosewood Munich response was. This is our first time in a Rosewood. It will be our last. We will never try another as we prefer hotels that actually treat people kindly and not what seems to be a selectively kind manner. Hiding behind policy that was not on the website was even worse and when we asked them to produce the policy, they could not but they sure had time to conveniently modify their policy…sadly I already took a picture of the original because I anticipated they would to that very thing. I was disappointed to be right because it makes them very untrustworthy.
We have never experienced such rude, dishonest, threatening, inappropriate staff member who was lacking empathy and quite frankly disrespectful. To not have anyone address that but make excuses for her claiming she likely misunderstood was also insulting because she knew enough to attempt to charge for that day and 90% fo the second day IF we cancelled and chose to book another hotel which came across as a threat because the alternative was to stay in the horrible situation we were trying to have them fix, and then of course they would waive those charges (why wouldn’t trust someone who just said that to me?). Actually we just did not trust any of them as we recognized how horrible they were. We were willing to leave, and then asked them to show us the policy for 90% which they could not produce (they have now conveniently added it to their website as of this posting. Good thing we took a picture of the Rosewood Munich Policy yesterday as well as their main sites now has more information (90%policy language) than it did previously. Sad to see that they would rather self-protect and we have no trust of what they can choose to modify next to justify their position. This is similar to their asking us at checkout if we enjoyed our night even though they were all aware of the situation and that they were unlawfully charging us 50% of an additional night because of their failing that they did not see to have any consequence for. Yet they attempted to make it seem as if they were doing us a favor by only charging us for the night that they should have credited with all the nonsense in that room (no internet, and no AC in a room that cost over 1000 euros? yesterday) So of course we are to be grateful for their generosity of charging us for a room that had no AC, no WiFi and all the other issue.. it wait they are helping us little people by only charging 50% for a second night even though we notified them of why we were cancelling way before their deadline. Such shadiness is infuriating and the audacity to ask us if we enjoyed our night stay when we were checking out just confirmed how bad the service and care is here.
Oh, and we were informed by a second staff late in the evening when we called back that the staff probably misunderstood and of course we were reminded of how expensive they (Rosewood Munich) were and how great a hotel they were as if being an expensive hotel is a good reason for us give poor service, fail to take responsibility, fail to apologize and then charge for the night and 50% for a second night to make good on the threat that in our opinion was designed to keep us at their hotel. We left because it was too much and the worst part was that staying here resulted in one of us having a horrible flare of medical condition because of the heat due to the broken A/C. Their response to A/C being broken was so bad we did not trust them enough to even call anymore since all they cared about was money, and their solution which was not a solution spoke volumes! And of course we could not help but wonder about the assumption and the focus on us paying! we did not understand why they kept emphasizing money and expensiveness of the room as if this was our first time in a 5-star hotel…was it because of female gender, ethnicity of color, age, or any other factor? All this showed us was that this was not a misunderstanding, it was an assumption rooted in whatever bias the staff members felt and believed gave them the right to disown their own responsibility by highlighting cost rather than just admitting their own mistakes and limitation. We would have respected them more if they were openly honest(I.e. if they just said “we don’t want to or cannot give complimentary upgrade at this time as this is every hotel’s right to choose, or if they had just apologized and honestly addressed the issues in the room rather than defensively making accusations that was the opposite of what we were attempting to do); just as they lied about the fact that preferences were not noted by the Rosewood Global Reservation but then pretended to recover the information after we called the Rosewood Global reservation who confirmed that those preferences/request were clearly noted.
Conclusion: If you’re looking for a 5-star hotel in Munich that offers good service and keeps its promises, avoid the Rosewood! We were able to book the Rocco Forte The Charles Hotel and it is much better.
