Good accomodation near the Ilmenau main station

We booked like 10 double-bed rooms at the Hotel Ilmenauer Hof.
So the reservation and cancellation of the room numbers were smooth as well as the check-in and check-out process.
The rooms were all clean and kinda cozy, same as the bathrooms.
What I didn't like was the keen of hearing of the dorms, as this could be kinda annoying.
The breakfast was quite basic, but good as you just pay 6€ per breakfast.
In total a solid accomodation with a good price-performance-ratio.

Very good experience.

Encountered the hotel in transit and very positively surprised:
Friendly welcome, nice, clean and quiet room with good comfort.
Also the breakfast included in the price, served by a friendly lady, was above average. If we come back to this area this address is first choice. Value for money is very good.

Cheap accommodation

12 years later, I am back at the Ilmenauer Hof, and too much seems not to have changed. The reception is full of signs, the sound is objective. A second pillow is no problem.
The open shelf construction offers plenty of storage space and insight, and cleaning is available on request for several days. There are still 2 sockets within sight of the 2 single beds, one of which already occupies the TV. When I address this at checkout, I learn that the guest can get multiple plugs at the reception. That would have been worth a sign.
The TV offers several hundred channels, most of which are not occupied. In the alphabetical sorting, the entertainment seeker can find his way around, radio does not exist. If you want to watch TV in bed, you have to be careful not to hit your head on the lamps. The Wi-Fi is stable. The bathroom convinces with cleanliness and sufficient storage space, but shows shortcomings in the equipment: It is unheated and is apparently vented via the room. Mirror lighting is missing.
In the breakfast room located one floor down, the tables are close together, especially near the buffet. There is good filter coffee from the thermos. The buffet is solidly stocked and well attended. Of course, some things run out, is not replenished in the 45 minutes of my stay.

Good for a short stay/business trip.

This hotel is reasonably priced and centrally located. The rooms are clean and big enough.
The facilities are adequate, getting used to is that the reception and the hotel is on the second floor.
Breakfast is good and rich.

If it weren't for the beds, everything would be perfect for travelers

The hotel is run with a good plan, which the frequent traveler and her animal companion notice immediately. It is also unbeatably cheap, has an extensive breakfast, dogs are allowed and only pay 5 euros, and there are plenty of parking spaces. The building is not pretty, but it does have a Greek restaurant.
What is not good are the beds, at least mine in room 40, urgently needs a new mattress. Even if it is a hotel for travelers passing through and not for vacationers, you don't want to feel the individual spring coils on your back. Otherwise, everything is fine!
