Staying like friends.

Very friendly innkeeper, who is always approachable, very helpful and also really helps when needed. He brought us back to his hotel from an aborted festival on demand. We really liked this kindness. This makes your stay at the Hotel Hansen a very good experience. A very good breakfast and good Wi-Fi is also particularly noteworthy. The rooms are nice and comfortable. We will definitely come back

Great place and great staff!

Nice place and nice staff.
They made the effort to communicate in English, whis is really appreciated by a non-German speaker like me...
I was the only guest on Saturday night and I got all kind of easiness for breakfast on Sunday.
Almost a tailor-made breakfast! I would stay again if I have to come to that region again.
There is only one negative thing, but is not their fault. Saturday night was very windy, but inside the room you had the impression that there was a tornado outside. You could hear the wind and it gave the impression that the weather was so much worse than actually was.

Excellent but very much off the beaten track

I have been to Germany a few times recently and have stayed in pretty good hotels. I am pleased to say that this is a further name to add to the good list.
We arrived after an awful road journey from the UK in bad weather. It took some finding because it is not in Heinsberg itself but, rather, a small village just outside by the name of Dremen. Dremen is so small that when I tried to pull it up on "Google Maps" the system insisted that I must have meant "Bremen". Bremen is a large place. The locals in Dremen describe the place as a village.
Check in did not take long. We had a German speaker with us which made things easier but the landlord, and landlady whom we met the next day, have a very good command of English. We signed for our rooms, were advised about the doors to use to enter the property at night and timings for meals. We arrived on Sunday so we had to go out for a meal as the hotel restaurant is not open on a Sunday evening.
We asked the landlord for advice as to local options for food. There are a few small outlets in the village. We decided to stop at the first one we came to. It is a Chinese/Thai "Imbiss". It is only some 300 yards/metres from the hotel. Nothing special by any means but functional and inexpensive.
The room was a fair size whilst not large. The whole hotel is fitted out with rattan furniture. Even the ceiling in the bar is furnished in this way. The roller blinds outside the windows were a God send in my room as I had the hotel sign outside. It is quiet but there is a railway line outside. I, neither, heard nor saw any activity. There are barriers that can drop but I cannot comment on how often they are used. Certainly, my 3 nights accommodation were not disturbed by any movements on the line.
The room was quite cool which I like but I know some people will want more warmth. There is a radiator in the bedroom and another in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The quilt was a good weight for the time of year. There is a TV with over a dozen channels. CNN is the only English language channel although there were some other programmes shown in English with sub titles rather than being dubbed.
Breakfast was good. They do not do any cooked food, other than eggs as far as I am aware. Certainly, we were all happy with the teas/coffees, bread, cheese ... that is the standard fare in continental hotel breakfasts. The landlord and landlady were attentive and friendly without being intrusive and everything flowed smoothly.
At dinner we had good meals which were fairly priced. Non - smokers should be aware that German pubs are not a smoke free environment as they are in the UK and some other countries. Personally I hate the smell but it is allowed so you must adjust your meal plans as necessary.
The Landlord and Landlady became characters as the stay progressed and made the stay more enjoyable. I have only one negative point that relates strictly to the hotel rather than to German smoking laws. It is in a little village a long way from many places that may be of interest. Too far for some no doubt but worth it if you want some degree of isolation. Would I recommend it ? Yes.
