Service: 0/10
Check in was ok - not great. Greeted by very intense (intense, not positive or overenthusiastic) owner. Shown into room - which looked lovely, but the owner hesitated to leave for far too long. Was she waiting for a tip? Not sure, but definitely awkward. They leave fresh apples in reception, and extra cheap toiletries in the hall - a nice touch.
Tv in the room is nice but only worked for the first night. For a hotel that HEAVILY advertises sky (banner outside hotel, flyers and cards in lobby, door hangers for cleaning rooms all sky branded etc.) you would think they would make sure it works. Unfortunately not. The card was being used elsewhere so all sky channels remained locked (roughly translated - see photo for exact messages). When we searched for help fixing this, we discovered the fancy looking phone in the room was useless as it has a dial tone but even just dialling 11 for reception as instructed on the little sheet next to it, doesn't work. I then went down to the deserted (lights off, locked up) reception and rang the inside bell. 5 min wait for no answer. I then rang the outside bell which is how new guests arriving contact reception (front door is kept locked at all times) another 5 min wait with no answer. I went down to the pub where the two male staff literally said 'is it the sky card' when I had
only mentioned the phone and tv. They clearly know this is an issue and nothing has been done to fix it before more guests arrive. They then say 'the restaurant is full what can I do' with a cheery not-my-problem smile and carried on serving the maximum 10 guests down there. It's tiny. I used to be a barmaid, they did not need 2 member of staff for 3 tables. Ridiculous. Patiently, I go back to reception as they say 'you have to call reception' even after I explain the phone is faulty and no one is at the desk. I go back up (apologies dear reader, I know this is getting long but before booking this place you need to understand the level of incompetence) and ring reception inside and outside bells again. 10 mins later still no response. Going back to our pals in the 'pub' they inform me the manager is not there - definitely could have told me this before hand. Thanks! I then ask for anyone who can help but they say there is no one! I ask them to call the manager and shockingly no one answers the phone. I give up at this point. 30 mins of my life I'll never get back. One of the final pages of the user booklet (that is entirely in German) requests guests immediately tell reception as soon as something if wrong so they do not lose 'dear guests'. If they make this as difficult for others as it was for us then I don't expect they will have many return visitors.
*Update* Owner messaged me via booking.com. As I mentioned, the bar staff were aware that sky was not working before I said what the problem was, so no one had bothered to do anything about it since the previous guest complained. Their reaction - not helping the customer and not even trying to help was the bad part. The sky card couldn't be helped instantly but the service was all wrong. If you take time off you should leave competent staff in charge in your absence, not just abandon the hotel and hope for the best! See message below:
'So i check the Sky Card in your room. It is right - there be didn´t work (i don´t know what going be), and i call today Sky - there must to be change the TVCard and the company send us a new Card. So it is not our mistake that is didnt work. I´m sorry that i have at Sunday my personaly off evening with my baby, and that you going angry about the guy´s in the Bar - please understand that we can´t do anything in the situation. But i say to the guys that is not okay for the situation to you. I´m very sorry for that!! And really, i feel very bad that you are going angry! So please accept my apologize!'
Room: 6/10
No fire alarms in the room!! Horrible rope hand rail along the stairs - no access for disabled or mobility impaired people.
Shower and bathroom are great, although hairdryer is rubbish. Toiletries are very, very cheap. Wouldn't use again. Toilet brush disgustingly dirty.
The rest of the hotel is incredibly clean. Not a spec of dust to be found.
Beds are just ok - not proper double beds, they are two single mattresses next to each other. Bed sheet over mattress is short towelling material, almost what you would expect in an elderly person's home. Very strange - see photo. One XL but very floppy pillow and one tiny pillow (more like a decorative cushion) provided per person. Very uncomfortable if you're not used to it. Not luxurious at all. Towels are not changed and toiletries not refilled for second day.
Breakfast: 5/10
Lots of choice but not great quality. Having stayed at 6 other hotels in Bavaria this trip alone, this is the worst breakfast by far. Bread rolls were stale, meats were warm. Having the owner's child screaming in the corridor with the door open opposite our table throughout the entire experience didn't add to the ambiance either. If she had been the only staff member I would understand why this might be necessary and therefore acceptable, however one of the barmen was also there just hanging around whilst she did all the work instead of being able to tend to her child. Coffee is expresso and incredibly strong. It's also not fun eating in a windowless dungeon that smells like beer.
The 'pub': 2/10
Is not a proper pub. It is an awkward copy of an Irish /Scottish pub. Two different things that just don't work together. It's very small - approx 10 tables and underground. Irish music is played tinnily over speakers as you go down the stairs. No disabled access. It is not cozy or welcoming, it's one of those places that goes silent when a strangers walks in - not ideal being attached to a hotel! Barmen have a bad attitude. On the first night we just wanted to look at the menu, so when asked if we needed help I said 'no we're fine thank you' and picked up an menu from one of the many empty tables, then the barman retorted 'no you are not fine how can I help you' in an aggressive tone. Needless to say, we didn't eat there.
Conclusion: 2/10
After two nights here, we will never return. We will not recommend it and would go so far as to actively discourage others from doing so.
