Very friendly service and strong lunch – but disappointing in the evening & rooms not clean when moving in

We have been to the Aschbacher Hof (restaurant and hotel) several times and would like to describe our experiences transparently and comprehensibly. There are points that are really convincing – at the same time, there were such serious shortcomings for us that we evaluate significantly critically overall.
Positive
Service in the restaurant: The waiters were exceptionally friendly and pleasant throughout.
Reception / reception: Especially Mrs. Schnitzlbaumer was very helpful and warm – that was really beneficial.
Terrace: In summer a fantastic outdoor terrace with mountain views.
Lunch table: At noon we had a fresh, very delicious cuisine repeatedly (e.g. duck at noon: crispy, juicy, dumplings seemed fresh).
Cake & selection: Very good cakes, great choice.
Breakfast: Rather small selection, sufficient for us. Highlight: homemade jams. Coffee is served, tea selection (Ronnefeldt).
Rooms (new building/attachment): Modern, tasteful, walk-in shower (practically also for older people), toiletries & hairdryer available. Rooms to the terrace: magnificent mountain views.
Negative (Decisive for us)
1) Table requests/communication Restaurant management
The restaurant manager had a very defining effect on us. Although table wishes could be expressed, we were explicitly told that there were no commitments as the award was made “according to economic criteria”. We found this to be less guest-oriented and unnecessarily rigid in communication.
2) Dinner: significant drop in quality – on two evenings
We deliberately gave dinner a second chance. Unfortunately, both evenings were disappointing for us – especially compared to the very good lunch.
Specific examples:
Duck in the evening: We had the impression that she was warmed up (skin soft/ragged, flesh dry/tough). The dumplings also seemed firm/rubbery to us. The blue cabbage was very delicious.
Roast onion: We lacked roasted aromas; the taste seemed “cooked” rather than vigorously seared. The piece of meat was also hidden under many roasted onions.
Cheese spatula: Not edible for us because the cheese mass completely masked the spaetzle flavor.
Cod fillet: Crust too dark to burnt, bitter in taste. The fish also seemed wet/slimy and not reliably cooked through for us.
‘Risotto’: From our point of view very liquid and tasteless; we could not recognize announced ingredients.
3) Rooms on occupation: three rooms – and none properly cleaned
Check-in wasn't until 3:00 p.m., and at 2:00 p.m., according to the statement, there was still cleaning. That’s basically okay – but then we expect clean rooms. When occupied, all three booked rooms did not seem sufficiently cleaned:
Floors did not appear vacuumed (e.g. visible glitter/small parts).
In one room there were food scraps under the bed (including salt pretzels).
Bathrooms did not seem properly cleaned, we partly cleaned ourselves.
In addition: Mattresses very hard, pillow very flat (tip: request second pillow). Rooms facing forward with mountain views are clearly noisy with the window tilted by the busy road.
4) Dealing with criticism
We found the reaction at the reception to our suggestions to be dismissive (“not competent, contact Mr. Lechner”). We would have needed a more active, solution-oriented response here.
Conclusion
The Aschbacher Hof has clear strengths (friendliness, terrace, very good lunch, modern rooms). However, our experience with dinner, cleanliness of room occupancy and complaint handling were so clearly negative that we cannot make a recommendation at this time – at least not for guests who expect consistent quality and reliable standards.
(Note: This is our personal experience and perception from several visits.)

Sehr geehrte Frau Zirngibl,

Ihnen alles Gute.
Michael Frankl

Beautiful spot just a short drive from Munich. Hospitality was excellent, restaurant was very nice, and breakfasts in the morning were very nice. Will definitely return next time we are in Munich area.

What a beautiful place to stay during my travels through Europe. The room was clean and comfortable. The dining experience was amazing as I enjoyed a Bavarian dinner and a wonderful bottle of German Riesling. The Restaurant staff were very attentive and allowed me to enjoy the amazing view of the alps for as long as I needed.
