Clean, Safe, Good Services

We traveled by Eurostar train from Paris to Cologne, which was very convenient. We stayed at this hotel for two nights. It's located in the heart of the Old Town, close to the train station, Cologne Cathedral, and many restaurants and shops. It's also very easy to walk to the Rhine River. 100% convenient.
The room was quite small, but that wasn't a big issue since our main goal was to explore the city. The room was clean and safe, the breakfast was delicious, and the staff provided good service.

Hotel good, rooms very small, breakfast miserable!!

The hotel itself was ok, but the rooms very small. And unfortunately, the heavy curtains to the stuffy air do not contribute to the improvement. In addition, with the window open, sleep is unthinkable, life still pulsates into the deep night. And breakfast is more of a disaster. A 5-6, which is not fair to the 3* despite everything. 1 star at most....unfortunately! Which was very good, the brewery restaurant. Delicious food, friendly and attentive service and a full house. The crowd speaks for itself!! Mood is very good!!

Not recommended

I was planning to leave a good review, because when we first arrived — and we arrived earlier than the official check-in time (around 7 AM) — we found the door locked, even though I specifically chose this place because it offered 24-hour check-in. I was hoping we could at least leave our luggage even if the room wasn’t ready yet. Fortunately, a lovely and very caring woman who works in the breakfast area opened the door for us, let us leave our things, and even allowed us to sit inside while we waited for someone from the front desk. I want to say she truly took care of us, even though we couldn’t communicate properly due to the language barrier.
Later, a receptionist arrived, and although there were no available rooms at that moment, she still allowed us to check in earlier than the official time, and our room was cleaned first so we could settle in.
The next day, a different staff was on duty, and we asked if we could leave our luggage again, as our train was in the evening.
We prepared a small token of appreciation — some gifts for the two lovely women who had taken care of us — and came back to pick up our things. But by then, there was a man with long hair sitting at reception. While waiting for a taxi, I decided to change clothes and went to the bathroom (apparently one for staff only, as my situation later made clear), which the female staff had shown me the previous day while we waited for our room (!!!). I assume this is because the hotel is small and doesn't offer a public restroom outside of the rooms — and we no longer had access to our room at that point. Otherwise, I have no idea why I would have been shown that restroom
Naturally, I went to that same restroom to quickly change before our train, while my mother waited at the breakfast area table, since there are no waiting sofas or lounge area.
While I was inside the restroom, this man suddenly started banging on the door with incredible aggression. Of course, I didn’t open it to him while I was half-naked. When I finished and came out, I saw a shocking scene: my 60-year-old mother standing on the street with all our luggage, and this man screaming at me — a young girl — in a way that completely shocked and confused me. I couldn’t even understand what he was yelling about. He had literally thrown my mother out with his own hands and then did the same to me, locking the door behind us. He locked himself inside the hotel, so much so that some guests were stuck outside with us and couldn’t get back in A real man.
Even if he thought I had done something wrong, he could have just talked to me like a normal human being, instead of physically throwing my mother and our luggage outside, and then me too.
I really hope that with the money we paid, the hotel will hire him a good specialist to help with his mental issues. It’s just a shame that because of him, we never got to give our small thank-you gifts to the two kind Spanish women, and that we had to wait for our taxi sitting outside on the street.
As for the rooms and overall impression of the hotel — everything else was good. I’ll add some stars for that.
P.S Maybe in this country it’s culturally acceptable to speak to women this way — I don’t know. But this man is an individual working with tourists, and one would expect at least some level of international human decency, and of course, professionalism.

Disappointing

Great location.
Small rooms & bathrooms tiny.
I paid extra at check in for breakfast but was then denied it as told it was taxes!
Booked direct as offered free mini bar. On 1st day 1 bottle of beer & 1 bottle of water. This was never replenished. Shower gel in bathroom was filled with water.
Wasn't until I put empty bottle in sink then it was refilled.
Staff are Spanish & have limited language skills. Very unfriendly & was made to feel uncomfortable.
Location is great, although noisy due to being on the square. Better options for price within Cologne.

Conveniently located hotel with good breakfast

The location of the Sion hotel is great, right near the Haymarket and the Cathedral. Nice staff, good breakfast buffet. Double room and bathroom are a bit small, but you don't stay too long in the hotel. Parking was possible in the car park at Heumarkt.
