Difficult to leave

South of Raiatea, where the island is the most authentic, the wildest, and with the strongest mana perhaps also, this hotel is magical. Everything is done to make you feel good and the coral garden a few fathoms away, offers you beautiful photos and sometimes beautiful encounters.
Marie-Claude is a true explorer and her fruit juices are to fall. We'll be right back. Promis

Nice room

I only wanted to go to Raiatea to see the world heritage site, Taputapuatea, and for the excursion around Taha, so we only spent 2 nights, which was enough. This island is not as lovely as the others we visited. Unfortunately it rain and the ocean was very rough so no boat trip which bummed me out. The rain did let up enough for us to see the UNESCO site. I picked this hotel because it is next to the UNESCO site. Unfortunately, I chose a beach villa and not the other room type as the beach villas do not have AC. They do have a ceiling fan. I mentioned the rain because I am unsure if it caused the horrendous mosquito problem or if it is always there. This is also where the no AC comes in; there are no scenes on the windows, and I am really, really allergic, so we could not open the windows. There is a screen about 6 inches long that runs around the top of the walls, as well as a ceiling fan. We had to use a towel to open and close the sliding door to keep the mosquitos out. The room was nice and well-appointed, and the bathroom was fabulous. The staff was very good, but they spoke very little English. However, we got through that just fine—there was no Wi-Fi in the room and 6 French TV stations. Usually, we would not even know that, but with the rain we stayed in the room. The hotel is not walkable, and the restaurant was not working when we were there, but you could order from a menu, and they would deliver the food to your door. They have cars there that you can rent. You cannot drink the water so bring it with you.

I was defrauded trying to book a stay at this hotel

Earlier this year I was looking for a family accommodation on Raiatea for a three-day stay in mid-July. I was contacting Hotel Atiapiti directly via the email provided on their website. They soon replied to me with a quote of XPF 108,600 (EUR 910) for the stay, so I wrote back expressing my wish to book the offered bungalow. On the same day I received a reply with a request to transfer the total amount for the stay to a designated bank account. I wasn’t distrustful at that time as many other places on my trip to Polynesia asked the full accommodation amount in advance and transferred the money. After some time, I got an email stating that the money wasn’t received and that I should transfer the money again this time to another bank account, they would refund me if the original payment was not returned to me. At that point I became suspicious and looked deeper into the matter. I noted that my email asking to make the booking was auto forwarded to a Gmail address and this Gmail address had sent me the mail with the transfer instructions. As I later found out, the person using this Gmail address was acting in a fraudulent manner. Someone, either within the hotel or outside, must have interfered in the conversation and arranged my email to be forwarded.
I contacted the management of the hotel (via their original email provided on the website) several times explaining the issue and asking for clarification but never received an answer. When I was in Raiatea, I went to the hotel directly and spoke to the hotel owner in order to clarify the issue. Unfortunately, she was not cooperative and helpful at all. She mentioned sarcastically that I just had bad luck and that I should get over it. To my question why she didn't reply to my emails asking for help on this fraud case she could provide not coherent answer.
Only when I went to the police the next day to report the fraud, she offered me via the investigating police officer that I could stay the three days “without having to pay”. By that time, I had already lost any trust in this place and had booked another hotel nearby for twice the price.
If anyone of the hotel staff was involved in this fraud or not, I will probably never know and in the end is not up to me to judge. However, the behavior of the hotel management not replying to my emails indicating a potential fraud relating to their hotel and not being cooperative in any way when I visited the place in person made me write this review.
Up to this day I haven’t received any feedback from the Raiatea police, so I consider the money lost.

Again and again

A magnificent facility. Everything lovingly decorated with a magnificent view of the turquoise lagoon. Located on a beautiful reef. You feel like you're in an aquarium. With luck you can see manta rays, dolphins, turtles and eagle rays.
