Unique castle located near D Day sights

Wonderful, historic, memorable, unique spot. James is a great host. Breakfast was wonderful every morning. The expansive grounds are wonderful for strolling. Highly recommend the restaurants pointed out by James and the museums nearby.

Wonderful chateau!

This charming chateau provides wonderful accommodations in Normandy! If visiting the area to appreciate the history, this is the place to stay. Monsieur James is very helpful and provides tremendous historical context as this chateau hosted the American war correspondents at D-Day. I would stay here again and highly recommend this chateau. Thank you for a truly memorable stay!!!

Remembering the World War II Allied Press Corps at Chateau de Vouilly

Spending several nights at the Chateau de Vouilly was one of the most interesting - and memorable- highlights of our recent visit to the Normandy beaches. Monsieur James, our host, was better than any tour guide, providing all kinds of information about this family-owned, working organic dairy farm, as well as its fascinating wartime history. The dining room, where we enjoyed breakfast with Monsieur James, is decorated with all kinds of wartime memorabilia, including photos of the famed reporters such as Ernie Pyle and a very green Walter Kronkite who camped on the grounds in tents set up for the press. The dining room is actually where General Bradley gave his morning briefings on the Normandy campaign. The chateau is comfortable, but not luxurious; our bedroom and bathroom were nicely appointed and spacious, with a gorgeous view over the grounds. It is well-located for anyone eager to visit more than one historic site. I would stay here again in a heart beat and highly recommend it, especially for to WWII history buffs.

Wonderful historical place and family

It has been many years since I stayed at Chateau de Vouilly but as I am preparing to go to Normandy in a few weeks I thought I would write of my experience, as I have also referred many friends to the chateau always with a positive experience.
The owners, Mr and Mrs James Hamel are the kindest and most gracious hosts, a true pleasure to be with. This family château was the headquarters of the US Press Corps during the summer of 1944 after the D Day Landing and the most famous journalists of the time stayed there for a few months and reported in the war. Historically this chateau is very important and the Hamel family will delight you with stories of the time in the very room used by the Press Corps in 1944, which the family has preserved exactly as it was since 1944.
This is not a five star hotel but a comfortable B&B working country château owned by a family who will welcome you with the warmest of hospitality. Staying there will enable you to connect both with very important history and with the special French- American friendship that can be especially felt in Normandy . You could never experience this aspect of France in a five star hotel, but you will at Château de Vouilly and the wonderful Hamel hospitality.
