Charming house and wonderful hosts
We recently stayed at L’Ombrière for two weeks and had a wonderful time. L’Ombrière is a beautiful old house set in pretty gardens on the edge of Montfort, a very pretty French village with its own château. L’Ombrière is now owned by Chloé and Grégory who are charming hosts and who go to great lengths to make one’s stay very comfortable. They are both friendly and helpful; their English is excellent, although they are also very happy to encourage attempts to speak French. Their two cats: Lily and Georges are lovely.
The rooms at L’Ombrière are pretty, the bathrooms well equipped, and there is a pleasant sitting room to relax in if the evenings are cool. There is also seating outside which Chloé welcomes guests to use. The breakfasts are lovely, with plentiful quantities of local fresh food and on warm days they are served outside. There is also a small kitchen where guests can make themselves hot drinks or light snacks during the day and evening.
The area is fascinating and, with a hire car to explore the local area, we found plenty to fill our two week stay. Our only caveat would be that both the house and the area would be challenging for anyone with limited mobility. The house has steps up from the parking area, and the rooms are all upstairs, some of them in the attic on the second floor. Many of the interesting little towns in the area have very steep streets, some of them unsuitable for vehicles.
There is a nice restaurant just a few minutes’ walk from the house, with some even better ones only a short drive away. Chloé is very happy to make recommendations based on the kind of meal guests are looking for and also to make reservations.

Fantastic and wonderful stay
Our stay in L’Ombirère was really great. It is a fantastic house to explore all that area and relax after a day visiting the nice villages, caves and prehistoric places surrounded by a peaceful landscape. The house was so comfortable, very well placed, spacious and beautiful, and your young owners so kind that we felt like to get back every day to enjoy our stay there. We have been stayed in a lot of bed & breakfast around all Europe and The States and I can assure this is one of the best houses to stay and save and extraordinary memory. Lena & Niels provide all you can need offering the best advices to visit the most interesting places depending your profile; they are always very kind and discreet people. You have to try and there will be a lot of possibilities to come back again. We have not been able to wish nothing more, wonderful and comfortable house, owners really kindly and a beautiful region. I wouldn't like to forget the fantastic breakfasts.We well get back, FOR SURE. First of all we have to finish the walnuts and homemade jams that we bought at L’Ombrière!

Beautiful B&B with lovely hosts!
We stayed for one night at L'Ombriere and wish we could've stayed longer. The room we had was so comfortable and catered for everything we needed. The town of Montfort is idyllic and the surroundings are just beautiful. We were offered coffee and biscuits on arrival by Lena and Niels and they were so helpful with any questions we had. The homemade walnut and apple cake was a delight at breakfast! L'Ombriere is in a fantastic location for exploring around the Dordogne and parking on site made it extremely accessible!

Stay at L’Ombrière!
My husband and I spent several nights at L’Ombrière this summer on our first getaway without our children. We could not have found a better spot to spend a romantic couple’s weekend! Our room was quiet, comfortable, and tasteful—and with a beautiful view. Breakfasts were healthy and delicious with local organic yogurt, honey, fruits, granola, bread, jams, and a special confection baked or prepared fresh each morning. We spent a memorable evening with the other guests at the B&B eating a wonderful and thoughtful 3 course meal prepared by our hosts.
Great restaurants in the area, canoeing, cycling paths, etc. Discovered a gem of a museum with a small collection of Doisneau photographs from his vacations in the region.
One of the best parts of the visit was the hospitality of Lena and Niels. They are incredible hosts, chefs, and advisors on the region in addition to being genuinely kind, warm and welcoming. They really go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. We felt like they were old friends after a few nights in Montfort!
Cannot recommend this spot highly enough. A real treasure.

The Place To Stay In The Dordogne !
If you’re looking for an outstanding B&B in the Dordogne région of France, L’Ombriere is the place to go ! It’s owners, active pilot and retired stewardess, Neils & Lena STAUDT-VOSS, vacationed here for 10 years and were then offered and accepted the opportunity to acquire L’Ombriere from its previous owner. The result is an extremely welcoming and customer focused B&B. Neils & Lena knew what they liked about L’Ombriere, and built on it.
My wife and I stayed here from 12 - 15 October 2018 and were delighted with our three day stay. With eight of the B&B’s guests interested in having dinner at L’Ombriere on our first night there, Neils & Lena served us and three other couples a fabulous multi-course lamb dinner inclusive of aperitif and wine and service for 32 Euros per person. Breakfast each day, which was included in our room price, was equally delicious and filling. We were also provided with excellent nearby restaurant recommendations for our other nights.
Neils & Lena were also very helpful in the planning of our outings to the Saturday morning medieval market of Sarlat-la-Caneda, and our visit to Rochamadour, Domme, Les Gabares Norbert Boat Trip on the Dordogne at La Roche-Gageac, The Hanging Gardens of Marqueyssac, the Chateau de Beynac, and the historic caves of Rouffignac.
Attached are some photos of our room and L’Ombriere. It’s definitely the place to base your visit to the Dordogne.
